Really?? omg did not know that my lord here i didnt think someone pushing this live didnt make a difference in the company. Point of the matter is they pushed this live like it is if the manager did not know this then he is indeed incompetent so what does that tell you about the company in general? If they have the balls to hire a manager who does not know his head from his ass then there is something seriously wrong. Case in point he knew he didnt care and pushed it live anyways. So wipe SOE's shit off your nose and start smelling real air.

Generally companies create a schedule that benefits the customer and the business needs. So the time frame for the most part is out of the hands of the developers. If for some reason, a large event occurs and it makes sense from a business stand point to change the schedule then it may be changed. An example could be looked at from the GoD expansion in EQLive. So EQ2 has been doing monthly updates for a very long time. That is their schedule (I know I am stating the obvious here).

Now with that said. It is the job of the development or manager or both (for the most part) to try to ensure that the intended updates make it into the next GU. These can be put on a list of priority and there may or may not be "must haves". It is also their job to make sure that these can be tested for correctly. If something cannot be fully tested then it should not be placed in, generally.

So with that said, if I had to guess, I would say that whoever was in charge in what is released, did not do a good job with scheduling what was going to be placed into the GU. Also, their regression team (if one exists) should add more tests to take into account the bugs of this GU. It would make me weep so much if they did not have any testers on their team. I have never read or seen anyone from their test team, but I haven't gone looking for them. Does anyone have ANY clue if their have a test team? It wouldn't be the best thing to have developers to soley test their own code

You're joking right? If casual players wanted the end game top-of-the-line shit, they wouldn't be casuals.

Point is, the guys everyone rips on about being a noob or whatever -- they are the demographic that SOE is really after; the casual player that maybe logs one 1-2 hours a day and feels like he/she has accomplished something.

Who are these players besides soloers and crafters?

That is the way ALL these games are going to play from now on, especially when you have a case study out there like WoW.

So I would say pray like hell SOE keeps attracting the casual players so they make a little more scratch. Then maybe you will have a shot at SOE fixing some of the raid content. Else, get ready for the next big disappointment - WAR.

as a low end person, still new to the game, after a few months of game play.
the attraction for me was only 1 thing.
challenge.
raiding is that only challenge I see worth trying for.

if there was no raid content, I wouldnt ever have gotten interested in this game in the first place.

ignoring the need for higher end raid content, is definatly something I will be paying attention to.
I am not there yet... but I dont want to get to the point where I start calling the game "easy" anytime soon, as I really do enjoy the game, and want to keep playing for sometime.

You call him a moron when you do not seem to know business structure? It has ZERO to do with what they make on other games and EVERYTHING to do what they are making on the game. They WILL NOT under no circumstances show a negative for this game to be kept alive they would instead just close it. They wont have games giving other games life support plain and simple. A business is only out for money and that is it when it is dried up they move onto the next project to make money which is obvious and common knowledge. No where was he refering to sony having no money he was saying EQ2 is hurting. Which from a standpoint it is hurting with the loss of players which is obvious looking at the servers. Now it is far far from being shut down of course but by far it is not profitable enough to put massive amounts of resources into it because there would be nothing in return for there investment.

If SOE loses the EQ Franchise, they lose their only viable foothold in the current MMO market. If they don't put at least some sort of money into the franchise soon, Sony will lose any sort of standing in the market for MMOs. Even something as simple as advertising for the games would show an increase in subscriptions. To say EQ2 is not profitable enough to sink money into for development, QA, Advertisements, Development et all is laughable at best and downright ignorant.

To sink money into ANYTHING like what you are talking about you need to see a return for your investment. With a old game that just is not worth it because usually you will rarely see a return instead they will/ probably are working on another good mmo.
I personally never said that EQ2 wasnt profitable enough to do those things but they certainly are not what they once were. You or me could probably never sit here and say if that is the case or not because there are a lot of factors we just do not know for certain and anything we would say would just be guess. One thing i am pretty sure is at this point in the games life there is that they would probably NEVER pull resources from another department for EQ2 unless they felt 100% they would make money off of it which would more than likely not happen. Do not get me wrong I am not saying this game is on life support it is far far from that. All I am saying is that eq2 is on a different budget from SONY. What Sony has makes no difference on what eq2 has and that is the point I am making.
