But to go back a bit, yes, epic 1.0's in eq1 for SOME classes were awesome for quite some time, as a wizard I used my epic 1.0 until PoP (PoTime specifically, wand off CT finally replaced it), clerics carried theirs for free rezzes still, etc, whereas melee's tended to upgrade theirs very quickly. But the lore was good, the difficulty in obtaining them changed over time of course, but that's the nature of things...
As time has gone on in eq2, the lore has gotten weaker, and these supposedly amazing quest-lines have gotten ridiculously easy....Prismatic's required you to do a mini-raid to start, learn a whole new language (by travelling all over the known norrath at the time), unlock MORE raids, and finally unlock a final raid to get your weapon...it was pretty nice tbh. Godking and Claymore's required some grouping , and a couple kills of raid mobs, but they at least took some time ...EoF was a series of group quests which took 1-2 days if you had the people available to help, followed by one raid kill to 'upgrade' to the final weapon...
Now we get a very quick and short quest series, much of which is soloable, to get your fabled epic, followed by needing two t1-t3 updates and one specific VP mob to make it mythical (yes, some people have stuff to kill afterwards), but basically, it's a joke to do.
The lore is lacking, the challenge is lacking, and more and more of late, I get disappointed that it's so easy for everyone to obtain these 'mythical' items...maybe we'll get lucky and they'll learn from what I think many perceive as the mistakes of these mythicals, but I doubt it.
