I've heard through the grapevine that the next expansion is going to be the last "real" expansion for EQ2 and then all funding is going to go over to vanguard from there on out. (This may be a rumor and not true, but it would not surprise me if this was the case)

-That being said, the original design was for ~200 levels, and they recently posted after the release of EoF that expansions would be released once a year now instead of every 6 months. There reason is so that they can release a finished and more developed product. ( I call BS on that but we'll see if we're still around )

Also I totally agree that level cap increases are totally FUBAR. We spend 7 days a week 5-6 hrs a day raiding just so that when we have 80% of the gear we want they release an expansion with a level cap and make the heroic/legendary solo shit better than what we spent 6 months farming raid mobs for. If they raise the cap again I'm most likely be gone from EQ2 and playing Vanguard full-time, or possibly quit MMO's until I can get a sick computer and a "new" game comes out.

At this rate with a guild of only 24 players (no sit-outs or alts) assuming you got every single drop the 1st time and nothing was transmuted, it would take three months to get the Class Set legs and Class Set Chest for the people in your raid. -- Three months for the raid is not bad, but with the randomness of the loot that is going to escalate to about 1 year +
-- At three months of doing Emerald Halls assuming you totally own the zone and get it down to a science I'm guessing it would still take about 8hrs todo start to finish if you got 2-3 named per floor. (96hrs of play time per person Just spent in EH 2304hrs collectively)
-- one year = 386hrs per person in EH alone!!

Sorry for the rant, but fucking trashmobs for the lose.

I dont like the idea of another level cap raise.

However, they cant release new content and actually have some sort of progression with their system of caps. The fact there are hard caps on everything reinforces this problem. While this new system of caps is slightly better then it was, it still wont allow for added progression beyond another expansion, possibly two.

To bring an example: WoW has no caps that i'm aware of, beyond perhaps a mitigation cap. When you add 1 sta it = 10 hps. when you add 1 int = 10 mana. That formula stands from lvl 1 to 70. There were also directions of progression, +damage gear, +healing gear, etc. Of course EQ2 has this now. but there is no form of progression to it. Treasured gear will have +30-50 to damage or healing, while fabled will have +20.

All that being said, Sony will probably raise the level cap. They will probably revamp the entire combat system again. They will continue to lack the knowledge of how progression thru raid zones operates. They havent learned in 2 years. Why would they catch the hint now, or in the future.

I never played EQ1, but...how was that games progression? Isn't the max level 70 as well?

The original design had plans to scale to level 200, but the original design also had the max level as 100 for the initial release. I believe it was sometime in their last year of development that they slashed the number in half for the release's max level. It was never clear or clarified if that affected the planned max level of 200.

Of course I don't have references for this info, it was a long time ago, and my memory isn't perfect. So take it for what it is worth.

I'd take a level cap increase over more progression from doing grey quests though.

They should just make the next AA teir be equal exp by grinding out level 70+ mobs. It should be like EQ1 was where one AA took about 1hr-1.5hrs of grinding heroics and no scaling upwards in difficulty. So you grind out the AA when you have time just like grinding out levels. Have raids = 50% of normal exp. such that an emerald halls run would be like 4-5 AA off trash mobs lol 8-10hrs.

well they need to stop this raising the lvl by 10 shit, IF (and i sure as hell dont want another level change anytime soon) they change the lvl they need to go by 5's like eq 1.

If they were really smart they would change thier whole gd con system cause it sucks balls for advancing characters. raise the lvl and once it becomes white blue or green its instantly trivialized. They need to work some type of system where you have to be X lvl's higher than the mob before the con changes. Something to allow them to continue to fuck up (raise caps constantly) ,cause you know they will, yet keep some sort of progression in place.

Level cap raises don't inherently provide your char with new content, but they do inherently deprive you of prior content, and invalidate your prior expense.

Your spells as a whole don't scale. However many hundreds of plat you spent on master spells, just get flushed down the shithole, only so that you can work hard to acquire the same spell lines all over again. That's not advancement, that's catch-22.

Even worse, it compounds the tedium of rolling an alt from scratch. That's just one MORE tier for which you have to sit around waiting for a grind group.

Then there's the forum tension with the devs and what tiers they can release new content for. So the dev focus is spread further thin, and the server population is spread further thin (as in: there's minimal incentive for inter-tier adventuring), and on and on.

You guys should do a full game query by level on eq2census.com, and graph the results in Excel or something.

I don't see why they can't just leave the cap where it is and just churn out raid mobs for the people at the cap, and tell the people below the cap to suck it up and level.

They just need to keep releasing content only expansions, maybe not 1 - 70, but maybe like 40 - 70 or something like that, maybe a few T7 only expansions...Iunno.
