That's because EQ2 players need to jump through flaming spiked hoops to get Xfire to work, and Xfire seems more directed at FPS/single-player types, IMO.
So has there been anything recent released? I mean I'm going to guess 150k at the very least and 200k at the most, but...

Hello there! well i looked it up on wikipedia... not too sure how accurate this information is but it says 185,000 subs. then it also says everquest 1 has 200k which doesnt sound right.. but hey its wikipedia!

here is the link for it. has a list of all mmos. first chart is game info scroll down and you will see where it shows subscribers.
EDIT: well i looked up the refrences and found an even better website. with a shit load of graphs showing not only subscribers but market share and all sorts of information, here is the link http://mmogdata.voig.com/

Yeah I usually see the "200k" in their flash banner ads. EVE just isn't for me though.

I haven't even heard of that game until recently. Figures! And it shut down in 2004!

I think it is an industry standard to hide the numbers, so I wouldn't throw any company under the bus for doing so. Sure, I would love to see the numbers as much as anyone, but I don't immediately think a company is shady for hiding them.

Most companies seem to hide it and then show it at random intervals or a new record in subs, I think.

Liking the game and its style is a much bigger magnet than sub base, as so many people have shown when switching to another MMO, only to return later.
Hiding numbers/facts IS sucky management. People will talk, there will be rumors, and you can bet your ass that the rumors will always make everything look worse than the truth.

That's one of the reasons why FunCom is being flamed to hell and back right now, I think.

I just saw that too. What the hell, lawl. Could it be pissed-off PVPers or something? Even still PVP (servers) was out in February 2006...

Re: Current number of subscribers?
EDIT: NM Pay to play is what you meant
Yeah but I'd bet you they've sold more boxsets too and just because a game like GW has a smart enough marketing department to afford no P2P and live off RMT alone doesn't exclude it from the game.
The fact that it's more instanced, has a more implied storyline and has dual classing doesn't make it any less of an MMORPG.
As for Tibia I was just loling because its a shitty 2D wannabe gameboy emulator and still has a higher population.

Guild Wars is a MORPG, not a MMORPG, to be honest. Diablo II is as much as a MMORPG as GW is, from descriptions of it. Plus NCSoft is better at marketing anyway. SOE is kind of moving in the right direction with Steam but even with Smedley as a WoW fan, you'd think they'd emulate other companies' advertising strategies.
Also, Tibia is mostly populated by Brazilian farmers. Game still sucks though.

Re: Current number of subscribers?
This website: MMOGCHART.COM » Charts has been around for awhile and seems to have been updated through 2008 for many games. Unfortunately it hasn't been updated for EQ2 since 2007 at 200K.

Re: Current number of subscribers?
If a Company isnt doing as well as they want you dont hear about it, but when they are succcessful you know cause they spread it around, like wow. Thats why there are no offical numbers released since 2007....for eq2....
