Re: Illucide's idea to combine TS classes - please post in support of this GREAT idea
Although I only have a level 34 carpenter, I will say that I personally this a decent idea. You get more tradeskill exp for the first pristine you make, and when you only have 5 or so new recipes, then you don't get as much of a benefit as the other tradeskillers get that get more new recipes each level.

Why does leveling seem to be so many peoples concern? What good does it do you to be able to blow through a class that can't sell anything?

Re: Illucide's idea to combine TS classes - please post in support of this GREAT idea
If your reply was in response to my post, I wasn't focused on leveling. I was focused on the balance of recipes gained per level. Making that first pristine is exciting, at least to me. When I've finished making all the pristine firsts I tend to lose motivation to continue. Its not the destination, its the trip. If i'm making 200 (top of head here) foozlebigs to get 10% exp, its not very fun. If I'm making 10 foozlebag, 10 fizzlethrops, 10 ficklemungers, etc.. its a little more.. .whats the word, diverse. I don't know. Like I stated before, I'm only level 34 or so, my opinion isn't based on end game tradeskilling. I just know that I've never had much motivation to grind TS as a carpenter.

Not just you but, in general, most of the people supporting this idea are only supporting it from the perspective of leveling and self-sufficience. The deeper issues with the weapon smiths and woodworkers would address the variety issue.
As it stands now, if you don't like carpentry, quit now. Even if the changes do go through, unless you craft just to support yourself, you won't notice much change except it's faster to race to 70 and do nothing.

That is like Kendricke saying if you don't like the game, don't log in. I'm not the only one disheartened by carpentry in the game, I've heard several others complain since the game started. It has gotten better, but it could be even that much better, in my opinion if woodworker and carpenter were combined.
Call the resulting class a Mason, or a Builder and even broaden it further to the point where we can make better and bigger things. Like the fireplaces that could be built not just from wood, but stone and such.

Whoa whoa! That wasn't saying anything like that. I'm just saying it doesn't get any better so if you don't like it save yourself the frustration. I'd give the same advice to weapon smiths too. It's simply not worth it to plow through them at the moment so, unless you just really want to do it, don't stress yourself. Subs for instance made me quit this game twice because I was tired of grinding of items that didn't mean anything just to craft the same stuff I'd been crafting for 30+ levels. It's just advice to say don't do something that will make you hate the game.
The proposed changes won't open up much that couldn't be done leaving the classes the same. If anything, merging the classes as proposed will serve as a distraction from the core issue of not having desirable products.Nothing short of a full review will address this. we've had it confirmed the classes were built on a flawed model and we all know the classes were built for a system that just doesn't exist anymore and likely will never come back. If they want to be serious about fixing crafting's problems, then they need to dig in and fix the design flaws first.

I strongly advocate a "yes" response to this question. This is unquestionably in the best interest of this game, and I respect Illucide greatly for asking for community feedback on this question.
The post is here:

FYI, I'd be personally worse off if this happens, since I have both a 70 weaponsmith and a 70 armorer. But I don't care - this is better for the game.

It has my vote.

Re: Illucide's idea to combine TS classes - please post in support of this GREAT idea
But doesn't merging the classes open up for greater possibilities in the future?
Weaponsmith - Makes weapons
Armorer - Makes armor
Metal Worker - Makes anything concievably made with metal.
Sure Carpenters would probably lose their sconces, but wtf why are carpenters making metal sconces anyway, it just never fit.
Wood Worker and Carpenter aren't so cut and dry, but the potential for expanding after the merger I believe is greater.
Wood Worker - Works Wood
Carpenter - Works Wood
Builder - Works Wood, and Stone.
Seriously, that Oggok table that the Carpenters make? Thats not a carpenter nor a wood workers place to make a big stone table. If you call it a builder, then it would make a little more sense.

Re: Illucide's idea to combine TS classes - please post in support of this GREAT idea
The minute it was decided, that crafting would not be superior to loot dropped or quested gear, this discussion became a pointless exercise.
Merge them or don't merge them, allow respecs or don't, it makes zero difference, to the underlying fact, that crafting except as a hobby within the game, is dead. Its dead to all except fanbois, hobbyist, and those bored with everything else. I've given up on all except dabbling with my provisioner.
And I disagree with the poster who said they bit off more than they could chew. It was the desire to streamline it for cost cutting reasons that I believe killed it, not the difficulty in maintaining it.
60 alchemist, 60 weaponsmith, 69 provisioner, 60 sage, 60 carpenter.

But he's said he's not doing that. That's why I'm against it. As proposed now it's just a shift of perceived stagnant classes in hopes of making more viable ones- without actually changing anything.
