Self-mentoring, please!
I posted this message on the official forums. I think it is high time to allow self-mentoring and I want to see your vote and hear your arguments.
Quote:
I play with enough multiboxers to know that self-mentoring won't unbalance the game. Whenever we need to mentor we just pull out a spare alt and get the job done whenever we feel like it.
And OMG just think of all the content it could open up at will, and all the awkward situations we could avoid.
Self mentoring for the win!
Here is the catch:
The companion to such a feature, to prevent abuse, is for the game engine to make sure that you don't get quest updates for any quest to which you do not currently con above gray. That, I imagine, would be a very fair and relatively easy thing to add.

An enchanter epic weapon without subjugation is like a Buckeyes T-shirt without the colors scarlet and gray.

Don't find yourself fixing things out of fear that you should have fixed out of love.

Re: Self-mentoring, please!
the whole reason for color is to prevent blatant farming abuse.
so, with your "rule" in place... I still will be able to go into varsoons... (or any place thats grey) ... and run around and farm to my hearts content... without worrying about adds .. and destroying any hope that "noobs" get any type of upgrades.
And this would be the biggest boon to plat farmers... why level lock when you can go straight to 70 and have ice nova / apoc to kill whatever named you choose.
I see room for too much abuse...

Re: Self-mentoring, please!
So really it would be just making yourself like 45 again, ithout having to have th level 45 alt around? I'd be willing to go with that. And I like the check of all quests that are gray stay gray type deal.

Re: Self-mentoring, please!
I don't like the idea of self-mentoring because of how powerful somebody becomes when mentored due to spell scaling. You mentor down to Level 25 from Level 70 to green a named mob, and you are pretty much going to dominate that mob. Personally, I'd rather just have all quests give AA, and remove the TLC. No need for mentoring, because you get AA, and everything cons green(although if the mob is too far below your level, it will just be non-aggro, unless it's a raid mob, in which case it's always aggro).

Sure dude this may be the case but any true farmer will have alts at all levels on another account stick him at the zone in and that lvl 70 will have the same freedom. It really wont matter all that much. I really think this would be cool if people are bored go mentor down and take on old raid content to have some fun. Granted it would be easier but still fun.

Re: Self-mentoring, please!
Why have TLC if you could go to any dungeon in the game, walk past all the grays, find a safe spot, self mentor to where the named barely cons green, kill it and loot it and then rinse/repeat wherever you want.
Talk about no risk and all the reward.
Worst. Idea. Ever.

Re: Self-mentoring, please!
Only problem is it will cut EQ2 subscription numbers down by a good number. Therefore, has little chance at being added.
I do agree with Gaige, its basically removing TLC. There will be little challenge even if it barely cons.

You can already do that, just get a second account or have a friend's alt stand at zone in while he's at work or whatever and you can mentor/un-mentor whenever you want.

Re: Self-mentoring, please!
When you've dinged 70 and 100AAs, scaled up all your spells and wear full fabled, mentoring yourself wont make any sense. When you mentor someone else from 70 down to, say 32, you're not just a regular lvl 32. Sure your gear bonuses and spells are scaled down, but it's not the same. I look at it as when you mentor down several levels, your toon becomes the epitome of that character level in that you are maxed out in every aspect, far more than any level 32 should be. Allowing that wouldn't make sense.
Another thing is it takes away from your character's progression. The whole point of leveling is to progress your character further to take on harder content. Being able to essentially pick whatever level you want to be destroys that concept. There's a reason why mobs and quests go grey, and it's because when you reach a point you shouldn't be rewarded for picking fights with pussies. Now if you were to mentor yourself, it would make it a much fairer fight, but still it completely goes against the game's hierarchy. If you want to do something at level 32, then do it at level 32.
One less important thing is that the term "mentoring" would be rather abused. It's made so you can MENTOR somebody else, as in assist them through their adventures. Mentoring yourself makes little to no sense in this point of view. The whole mechanic is made so that you can help somebody with what they need to do, not help yourself farm dungeons. Imagine levelling a new alt in a group in RoV only to see some solo fuck level 70 farming the entire zone with ease.
I'm going to have to vote a definitive No on this. Honestly, I think it speaks volumes about the game which has very little to keep us interested, so we're left to think of things we want to bring some excitement back into eq2.
