Re: Why is T5 so overrated?
Keep in mind that I only ever raid in instances so I'm not trying to be snide or malicious...i just really don't understand. People always talk about wanting the competition of contested mobs....but then why don't all the "super" guilds pick a server and move there? I mean where's the competition you say you want if you have everything on "lockdown"?

There's not enough mobs for more than 1 guild on a server to be uber. That's what really made T5 what it was. There were just so many mobs that you just couldn't dominate them all.

Re: Why is T5 so overrated?
Also keep in mind, in t5 Fabled was *Gasp* Fabled. Rares were Rare. Tanks in Full Ebon were Uber. Anyone with Ebon weapons was in the top 10%.
Their was a carrot infront of you at all times and stuff to work towards, full fabled tanks were rare and contested were actually everywhere.

Re: Why is T5 so overrated?
T5 is not overrated. As others have said, the sheer numbers of raid targets made it fun. As to loot, take off the the "T7 glasses" for a second and examine the situation from a T5 perspective. Many of the things that made T5 great were because they were OMG rare! Not just raid gear and fabled, but crafted, and quested. Ie. Robe of the Invoker. Ebon armor, and the "now drops like candy" Master spells.

Ehhh, Robe of the Invoker pre-nerf was not rare.

You nailed it as have others fabled meant fabled. Raiding was fun and hitting multiple instances a night made it even more fun. So was scouting for contested mobs and forming up on the fly and calling your guildies to get online.
DoF was the start of my dislike of EQ2 and it only progressed.
Even knowing it was inevitable that with an expansion you had to upgrade it was frigging hard to let go of what I'd spent months to aquire and the stuff in DoF wasn't all that great and it looked bleh.
Those of you who continued to raid post DoF have allot of patience and gumption I couldn't do it. Of course there were other factors but definitely DoF was the big one for me. I might have stayed longer had I not taken that first break from EQ2; coming back and trying again lasted for a little while but meh the game just isn't fun to me anymore.

Re: Why is T5 so overrated?
The raid game isn't plug-and-play like that; you either have to fully commit or resign to doing heroic instances.

Re: Why is T5 so overrated?
I tend to agree that the main reason T5 is glorified is due to the general raiding virginity of the populace. Things were new, shiny, felt good and you wanted to do them again.
What I personally liked about T5 was the small size of the instances. in, out - done. No need to devote 3 days to it.
Then again, the bigger EPIC instaces are also cool in that you are dealing with a whole zone and it's a bigger event to do a whole zone.
I am not 100% sure here, but i think that if one were to calculate the total "raid hours" required by a raid guild to clear all X4 content in T5, it would actually amount to less than either KoS or EoF. So I don't think that the nominal amount of content is an issue, I just think people are better, faster and leeter than ever before and that why they feel it isn't enough.
Personally, I think a great solution would be to "tier-up" raid content. Meaning that everything that is X4 gets T7 (or T8 if there is a cap raise) equivalents with T7 loot tables.
Minimal design work involved from the encounter standpoint and a great deal more content available. I'd love to hit a T7 meeting of the minds or zalak, plus the BC and SP raids that many people never even bothered with. SPX4 remains one of my Fav raids in game and most people i know have never done it.
A T7 version would be awesome.
