Re: Everquest 3
I'm workin' in the flea market so early
I've been workin' here since my mama was a baby
Just because the rhythm is slow
That don't mean that you can't flow
In the rain or in the snow
Got the got the funky flow
In the rain or in the snow
Got the got the funky flow
All you ever need is to be nice and friendly
All you ever need is to be nice and friendly
Remember, strike it rich, the key is love
Save everybody from way up above
I can sell a bottle cap like this
I can sell a bottle cap like this
I never dreamed it would be like this
I am the number one ruler of the seven seas
The skunk over here will bring you luck
The pump over here comes with a truck
Oh yes, I had a lot a lot of fun
I made a lot of bucks and now I'm on the run
In the rain or in the snow
Got the got the funky flow
In the rain or in the snow
Got the funky funky flow
Ha ha, let me tell you something that I never tell you before
Listen this!
I have never sold everything, everything
You have never sold everything, everything
Money money money is all you need
Money money money is all you need
Heh heh! Your father's gonna be very proud of you.
Let me know if you have another flea market.
I will help you...or you will help me. Hehehe!

Re: Everquest 3
The Everquest series was the most popular series that soe made, so for them, it makes sense for them to try to revitalize the game. Everquest 1 was great and still is great, but now its way too basic and the graphics totally suck, if they were going to redo all of the graphics for eq1 they might as well make a new game because thats the kind of effort it would take.
Everquest 2 went wrong somewhere down the line, its hard to put my finger on it. but they failed to capture the same feel that eq1 had, why? because they were busy trying to clone world of warcraft as best as possible. eq2 was always too easy, you got what you wanted and it never took too much effort.
Warhammer online thought they would be appealing to the pvp crowd, and they had/have done a valiant effort. but the game couldent support the things it promised. epic warfare? huge contested pvp battles? extreme game balance? maybe someday, but right now the game had its chance and blew it.
Vanguard was suppose to be the next eq1, but SoE was forced to release it early and people left the game buggy as shit and it will never be able to reclaim the fanbase they wanted to originally seek for it.
SoE is not stupid, they know that there is about a 30 million person fanbase for mmos, possibly larger now because of how the recession have beneficially effected the game industry. when vanguard, warhammer and age of conan came out, they had an extremely large playerbase for a month or so before people started going back to wow for its new expansion. if SoE wants to remake Everquest again, they have to do it right:
1. Advertise your product out the balls before and after it releases, this is something that wow always did because they know like any business, your business is only as good as the new customers you bring in and old ones you retain. i never understood why SoE didnt get this, they have been making mmos for 10 years and ive never seen a single tv commerical for any of their games.
2. Make your game the way people want it, World of warcraft has always been and always will be a 'lite' mmo. its easy to get into and easy to log on a couple hours a night and leave with some satisfaction. dont let their success dictate the way you make your game, you cannot compete with them by making the same product, you've already tried with eq2
Remember eq1? it was difficult to do everything, it was hard to get anything and it took HOURS and even weeks, months, YEARS to get what you wanted. you need to bring that back, bring the sense of reward for working on something for so long.
when epics came out in eq2, people were so excited, everyone was doing them because it was a big, huge deal to them, even though eq2 epics were nothing like eq1.
IF you make a game, its gotta be huge right out of the box, it cant be cartoony like wow but it cant be as pretty as AoC either.
3. release expansions every 6 months. you make money doing it and you know it. when eq1 was in its heyday, expansions were full of new content and the playerbase couldent complete all of the content before a new expansion comes out, this prevents people from flocking to new mmos and old ones like wow.
4. lastly, bring the feeling of everquest back. the lore, the huge zones, the discovery, the sense that you were just one person against a huge world.

Give the EQ2 engine to EQ1, then 2 communities can hate them.

Sigil made Vanguard.
Also EQ3 wouldn't be EQ3 it'd be called something like EverQuest: Chronicles or something inane like that. I could imagine EQ3 being steampunk and that'd be awesome.
And SOE should do what the the Aqua Teen guys did and put Lite Brites in cities that look like bombs.

I personally prefer EQ2 now days over EQ1, but meh thats just me. The thing is EQ1 did great for its time, but its attraction to the market was extremely small. SOE will never compete with a game like WoW if they make it extremely hardcore. Sure I love a good hardcore game from time to time, but us hardcore lovers are few and far between, we do not compare to the millions that wish to play a carebear game. If darkfall ever can stand on its own two feet it should show us how hardcore MMO's work out, some players but its a niche market. I came from T4C years ago, something where leveling made EQ1 look like a joke (hundreds of hours spent just to gain a single level, no quests, nothing at that point just endless grind), and sure it was fun and hardcore to some degree but it was a niche market.
Yes SOE needs to learn to advertise, this game makes decent cash and yet they never run advertisements. I can't tell you how many people at work etc that I have talked to about eq2 that have no clue what the game is like anymore. I start to explain to them the things you can do and they are amazed at what it has.
I doubt we see an EQ3 anytime in the future. And even then they will probably do something stupid and try to put it on the ps3 hehe.
