Default Re: I activated my account, and here's why

I played EQ1 for several years and "alt-tabbed" boxed a lot. I tried out EQ2 not long after launch and it was very painfull to play. I stuck with EQ1 for another year then bailed to WOW to be with friends (didn't everyone?).

I single boxed WOW for a while then I started up additional accounts to speed leveling and feed my altaholism. I work rotating shifts so I don't have a regular play schedule and I can't keep normal raid attendence. I came to the realization a few weeks ago that I was stuck doing the same sh!t over and over again. Whether it was solo healing on my priest or doing the same dailies over and over again.

I knew I wasn't going to see the inside of the high end raid instances and pugging 5-mans was making my hair turn grey even faster. I said goodbye to my guild last week and dropped 60k gold in their lap along with tons of mats I gathered up while boxing.

I am having fun in EQ2 right now and absolutely love it. Since I didn't play very long at release everything is completely new to me. I am boxing again in a guild with another boxer. For those who don't know there is a support site/forum for boxing mmo's over at Dual-boxing.com . There is more and more wow boxer's coming over to EQ2 every week as well as solo account players.

All in all I like the similar lore and gameplay. The community isn't a bunch of 'tards and haven't seen any 'anal [Incite]' yet in chat.

/cheers

Some of the newbie areas are pretty fun, getting your first AA points is nice, and watching your progression from level to level. Even the solo quests in ROK aren't *that* awful (granted, not *that* great either), but once you hit max level, the game turns into a crapfest imo. Grind instances over and over just so you can get better gear which really doesn't matter most of the time because the instances just require you to pay attention, so one person can ruin a group completely. It's not like that in the newbie zones, which is probably why you're still having fun.
Luceus, you should start up again. I'm gonna reactivate tomorrow and try out RoK and TSO. (You probably dont remember me, but I saw you on EFP docks twiddling your thumbs plenty a time hehe.) Everfrost could use some of the older players.

I reactivated about 2 months ago.

I'd been playing WoW for a while and just got tired of the hamster wheel grinding that it proliferates.

So far, I've been really enjoying EQ2.

Luc! you really should come back! we miss the gnome!

been playing since 3 months after launch....same toon. and I still love this game. the people on Everfrost rock. sure 1-9 can get immature...but it don't last long....can always just un-check it for an hour or so. forget SOE...they don't make EQ2's community the way it is...they just gave us a place to do it.

Soasin posted a thread to another thread on wow forums after I quit wow again I decided to show both this thread and the wowforums thread and Now 3 of my wow friends are downloading the trial. People don't quit games because there isn't anything to do or they hate the customer service, class balancing or etc. People quit because the game no longer excites them. It doesn't bring the adventure like it used to. Plan and simple if the game brings the excitement ppl wouldn't honestly give a rats ass. If all that mattered ppl would quit the game as soon as they start it. Those excuses give them reason to say good by to their friends.

Welcome NecraGnome! I still can't get my friends off of WoW even after they have tried the trials...so GL with that. Keep me posted on how it goes. My WoW buddies say that the recent patch Blizz implemented that included dual spec and other class fixes is "awesome". However the same repeative gameplay exsists.

In regards to the Blizz thread I posted. The idea of homogenizing classes is such a bad idea for an RPG game. Blizz is taking that approach with WoW and I think it's such a bad idea for the RPG genre especially MMO related.

Level 30 with my Dirge! Going slow. Only enough time for a few hours a week. I haven't grouped yet. No guild yet so everything has been solo play which is really disappointing. I don't see a lot of chat/invites about low level dungeon crawl and group formation. All chat seems to be 55+ content, etc.

That's just one of the issues. Sure Blizz can dumb down WoW with expansions if they want. But why do that? My guess is to start catering to the younger 14-18 year old population so that Blizz can start putting more time on their unannounced Next Gen, new IP MMO. So you start making the 18+ crowd disappointed which in turn they/us move onto or back to other MMO's or even quit MMO's in general. Kind of interesting, if you read the WoW thread, it stays pretty mature which is quite the opposite when you talk about WoW community especially in the forums. So it has to tell you something. I say 2 more years and we will see a generational change with MMORPG's.
(Generation 1)EQ < (Generation 2)WoW < ? (Blizz, Sony, BioWare) hmm...
