So you start making the 18+ crowd disappointed which in turn they/us move onto or back to other MMO's or even quit MMO's in general. Kind of interesting, if you read the WoW thread, it stays pretty mature which is quite the opposite when you talk about WoW community especially in the forums. So it has to tell you something. I say 2 more years and we will see a generational change with MMORPG's.
(Generation 1)EQ < (Generation 2)WoW < ? (Blizz, Sony, BioWare) hmm...
I wonder what the next big MMO will be. Mayybeee SWTOR?

What was the generational shift from the EQ model to WoW? The only thing groundbreaking WoW has accomplished was huge subscription numbers and how they made Nintendo 64 graphics work on a PC.

I can't say I would ever come back to this game, but I can definitely throw my opinion on this topic. I quit this game well over 2 years ago over the fact it just was not the same anymore. I have said this in the past and I can probably say it again without even activating my account.

Playing this game since November, 2004, I have only loved levels 1-50 and all of T5 content. T6 was the turning point for my EverQuest 2 career. Although I accomplished quite a few WW firsts weather it being content wise or leveling, I just could not push myself to do the same into T7. My guild, in-game buds, and RL buds were starting to move on in life, or other games such as WoW.

Over the past couple of years I finally gave in to WoW and pushed my way through the levels fast as possible to catch up with my RL buds. The ONLY reason I decided to give WoW a try again was because my friends were playing it. I got my epic mount at 78 with ease, reached 80, and ran a bunch of instances. WoW definitely has that advantage over EQ2 of finding a group pretty quickly if you like the pugs with randoms.

I sit here and realize that WoW is in fact an easy game to play. Hence the reason why there's millions of immature kids, teens playing it nowadays. You don't need to do much to get the shit you want, at least from my point of view.

Blah, Blah.. My point is WoW has its perks and EQ2 has its perks. But what EQ2 HAS is a mature community. Most of the time you find it to be pretty reasonable without someone practically YELLING IN CAPS in chat (You know what I mean).

I have always loved the EverQuest series since my EQOA days. I have always felt EverQuest has been my home and always will be even if I don't ever activate again. I sit here sometimes thinking back on the good ol' days of raiding hardcore and how much fucking fun I had. But times have passed and the players that I once played with are now gone and moved on.

In my opinion, EverQuest series > any other MMO to date.

Very possible. Great IP, amazing story...problem with StarWars is making great classes and balancing gameplay with Jedi/Sith.

Im actually excited for DC Universe and any other MMO's that come to the console (I know...yuck! Consoles!?)

IMO graphics are just one mechanic that can assist a generational MMO shift. I agree, WoW graphics are a bit "cartoony" but for me that isn't a huge turnoff. WoW brought a lot of gameplay changes to the MMORPG genre. That is ease of use (death, UI, travel, etc.) and making the gameplay more comfortable for a broad range of age groups. This is why they have a huge subscription number.

Yep pretty much the only reason I played WoW after the last expansion...FRIENDS! And all of them can't seem to pull the WoW needle out like I did.

It's amazing when you take a break from MMO's in general. It's actually quite refreshing to see the vast array of other games out there and how well they were developed. ex. Oblivion and Fallout 3!!!

Saosin, I'm glad you mentioned Oblivion.....Imagine an Elder Scrolls MMO that players could use the construction kit with??? Hmmmm could be pretty over the top

I started EQ2 back in June I have played mostly casually and have taken the time to progress (76 SK) I really enjoy this game, the rich content and the people I've meet have really added what I was missing in standard RPG's

My only gripe is the lag I get from time to time, and the fact I've had to upgrade my gaming rig three times!!

Yeah the EQ2 community is fucking awesome. Some consider us elitist but that's just a vocal minority. There are more elitist game communities anyway (EVE, FFXI, DFO come to mind)
