Facts about the new SoE boards:

No link to EQ2Players
No link to Everquest2.com

--------------------------------------

Just fixing those two would make a difference. Thanks.

While I'm up on this soap box...

Where is the post rating system. The only weapon we have against unwanted information is 'report this post to a moderator'. I'd rather have minimal moderators, and ratings of posts. So I can FILTER out any post/thread that didn't fit with my rating. So instead of relying on heavy handed moderators, you rely on the community to steer appropriate discussions.

There is no customized way to view the forums. I tend to read 5 forums, and glaze over all the others. I would like a way to 'float' those forums to the top like I had before.

What is with the timeout?! I go to the SoE forums and see that there is a wealth of new posts to read over. I get pulled away before I can read them all, and come back to see that they've all been marked as read for me. I try to check and see if they come back up after clicking Read new messages since my last visit but no, because my last visit has been marked as the same time as marked as read. I check Recent Topics but these are all recent topics, not ones that I've not actually looked at.

The fact is that the implementation of these message boards is poor. For someone that needs to read the communications from certain classes, warden/furies, I don't like having to click three depths just to get to the discussions. The oversight committee that was in charge of moving away from lithium forums did not do their job. They got paid, and have been found lacking. The forums that were picked are not robust enough to use for a multi-site forum 'warehouse'.

Firing is a bit of a harsh word, but something really needs to be done. You can deter trolls from wrecking havoc on your forums without neglecting your customer base.

There is an assumption of anonymity, which I would assume isn't all that great.

If I took something that worked, and was used by many of my customers, and replaced it with a crappy freeware version I downloaded off the net, that had 90% of the functionality jerked out of it. I know I would be fired or forced to work round the clock to get it mostly back together.

Sometimes I think SOE is really some guy in his garage.

While I certainly have no love for the new forums (lacking a few features I really think are kinda important).. I can understand exactly why they did this change... it comes down to a very simple fact.. money.

They had to pay a license for the lithium boards, and I would lay good money that 1) the license was annual, and 2) that it went up for more users... there is a good chance that 3) they had to pay for any major software upgrades...

So, beancounters take a look at an annual license fee that certainly isnt likely to be cheap and compare it to free alternatives and your decision gets made...

One advantage is that with the new software they can customise things to what they want.. for example they finally gave in on the "stay logged in" feature actually working... and now we have a much better wysiwyg editor instead of the crappy one from before...

They can go much farther with the new forums, unfortunately they are starting from further back.

I don't see the point in everquest2.com, but the eq2players link would be a huge boon. On that note, why are all official game sites worthless flash applets?

The only time we go over to the official site anyway is when there isn't a new post here every 5 seconds after we refresh the page. Right?

Haha on IE 7, my 2 homepages that load are eq2 official forums and here. I usually click official forums off.
Bad thing is, when I go there and read, the people are becoming more retarded. I end up writing a huge reply telling them just that and that their stupid fucking ideas don't matter, cause I forget where I'm at and I erase the whole thing.
But yea, I'll hit refresh like 3 times here, then check my email or the official boards.

I pretty much check the official forums just for test update notes and the hope that I'll see an announcement that the new launchpad is going live soon.

Good post, I wasn't aware that Lithium was a pay service; the move, while annoying, makes sense now.
