Default Appropriate Treatment of 'Botters'

I am a guild leader of the Knights Who Say Kni on the Kithicor server. We are a reasonably large guild which blends open game play with a co-operative style and we do also raid on a weekly basis. We place no requirements on our players other than to ask them to exceed 999 status points to gain access to the our guild banks.

A truly thoughtful guild entertains the membership of our asian friends, and as such Kni risks some styles of game-play which may cause some problems - problems which require sensible solutions. 'Botting' is one such problem.

Every guild has botters, many players from every country take part in this. Unfortunartely. It becomes a sensitive issue when it appears that the 'botter' in question does not speak English well.

Naturally we at Kni have recently had an issue with such a 'botter'. This issue has been seized upon by less mature guilds and their younger members. Such people are vocal in their dislike of botters, yet have no idea how to deal with them other than to immediately boot them from a guild. It is of course notable that such people are not guild leaders and they will presumably never reach such a rank.

This approach is not appropriate. It is rude, insensitive and displays a lack of ability to administrate a guild effectively. Everyone, regardless of their country of origin, deserves time to reach their own decision about their own conduct. Everyone in Kni is treated with respect.

We deal with 'botters' as follows:

1. A leader speaks to them either live or by mail (and usually both) and notifies them that 'botting' is not acceptable in Kni;
2. They are given 7 days from their last log-in to explain their behaviour - which must include a promise to stop performing this illegal action;
3. If they do not offer any explanation within 7 days or do not stop 'botting' after the 7 day period - they are then immediately booted.

I am less than impressed with the remarks about Kni by those who have no ability to organise or administrate a guild.

So....I'm guessing you made this post because people on Kithicor are calling you a bot guild?

1. Not every guild has botters, I assure you.
2. It doesn't matter if the botter is Chinese or Uzbekistani, if he's a botter people are going to hate them. It just so happens that almost every botter I've ever encountered is Chinese.
3. Listen, you have members in your guild that break the TOS, period. This reflects negatively upon your guild because it seems as though you have no problem with it. You don't need a week to explain that you're a botter. If your name is ojiasdweu[0hfwhe, you don't speak english, you do the same exact thing every day, you tend to have a lot of masters for sale, and get caught using a macro spamming program, you're a botter. If you catch them botting, you kick them. You don't need to question them and give them a weak to present an argument, this isn't a trial.

Bottom line is, you keep tolerating the botters and not kicking them immediately, enough people will petition them and you will get your guild disbanded. IMO, it's your prerogative as a player to boot any member proven to be a botter, and don't give me that you can't prove it BS. Why are you trying to be so diplomatic about it? I mean if people see a dude named OISDhasouihdcq[' tagged in your guild for a week, what do you expect?

Essentially, you are trying to convince the people on this board that you tolerate gold farmers for x amount of time because you have some Utopian Holier-Than-Thou approach to respecting One and All, the whole time word has gotten out in the gold farming community that your guild is a safe-haven to gold farmers because the leadership are a bunch of twats with their heads jammed up their asses?

And for the Love of Christ, there's nothing wrong with botters. In EQ1 times, botting just meant that one person was playing more than one account at the same time, without the help of third-party programs. Why has usage of the term grown to encompass people who bot to farm gold?

Actually, bruised, that term was "boxing" because it usually took 2 systems to run 2 accounts back in those days. "Botting" comes from using a scripted program, like a roBOT.

Lao, both terms were used synonymously way back when, at least on the server that I was on.

Boxing=The act of playing two or more accounts at the same time.

Bot=One of the characters being boxxed, and not the character that was the source of primary game play.

I had a friend in EQ1 that boxxed 6 accounts, and he played his bot crew better than most groups that I had been in.

Same for my server, botting means you use assistance, such as programs.
