I really wasn't trying to convey a point. It was more for my own entertainment, thus it was successful in its intent.

Also, his opinion wasn't in the slightest bit well put. To look at it objectively, the whole concept of a planet's moon exploding and leaving the planet in any way habitable is ludicrous in and of itself. Suspending one's disbelief and running with the idea that life not only continues, but whole cities, nations, and societies remain in tact, how much does one actually expect to change over such a relatively short period of time? 500 years is not a terribly long period of time for a largely medieval society to develop without technological advances, of which there are none. Geologically speaking, 500 years is utterly insignificant.

What we've seen thus far in expansions is the developement and evolution of previously existing social and political structures, which is all we can realistically expect to see. This is why I general treat any posts of "OMG 500 years has past and the moon exploded!" with general contempt. The exploding moon is ludicrous and 500 years is a relatively insignificant period of time in a medieval world, especially a medieval world that is timelocked in terms of technological/social advancement for the sake of maintaining the flavor of the setting.

We should all look at this game realistically like sulan.. Look our chars cast spells and kill dragons and giant spiders just like we do in rl..

I raid at Wal-mart and thats a 45 min zone for me. Most of you might take longer but thats cause your cloths suck..

A certain amount of realism is necessary to preserve the integrity of the setting. The most successful high fantasy settings are settings such as Middle Earth and the Forgotten Realms, settings that require very little suspension of disbelief beyond the acceptance that things like magic and dragons do indeed exist.

Meh, imo the moon exploding and not utterly devastating the planet is believable in a fantasy setting. Also, between eq1 and eq2 was the Shattering, so it doesnt really matter how much time has passed - what matters is that entire continents have been shattered and sunken/risen.

Sinking an entire continent would have been entirely plausible had they chosen to go that route. Having a new one rise would have presented certain difficulties as a brand new land mass rising from the muck of the ocean floor would be utterly barren. Unless, of course, they took a Lovecraftian approach and had the destruction wreaked upon Norrath bring some sort of ancient evil to the surface. Eh, the Yha-lei are essentially Deep Ones anyway...

i would think that 500 years is more than plenty for life to re sprout in any area.. mt st helens blew like 30 years ago destroying everything, now you wouldnt have known it blew just by looking at the area.

500 years can have alot of impact just or very little.. theres no saying.. look at our times.. last 30 years we have progressed alot further than the 100 years before that.

They could make up the most unbelievable story and I wouldnt care. As long as the game is enjoyable people will play.
