For companies with one game, sure. For SOE? Not so much. They have global profits and a global financial pool. Thus, SOE games can thrive with a much lower subscriber base. There is no reason to water down all of their games when they have enough of an offering to appeal to every niche directly.

Casual players are not EQ2's core audience. Casual players are Free Realm's core audience.

Besides, EQ2 content is more than skewed enough to casuals.

The icing on the cake is that with the item scaling (will it be 1/3?) and the focus effects on set gear getting wiped away with a new tier of spells, there will be virtually no way of spending these eight months to give you any hedge against the ice water you're about to get splashed with in February. Playing the wealth hoarding game is pointless too because a hill of plat doesn't even buy you oxygen anymore.

Why should a level 74, who obviously can't raid in the proper teir, need a master spell that has lower resistablity, and which purpose is to be a spell to use against and during raid encounters? Anyone not fighting in the current teir raids has zero purpose for a master spell.

For once, I agree with Flaming Homo. What fresh hell is this?

SOE may have other products, but EQ2 is its flagship and they will never sacrifice their bottom line to make the minority happy. Casuals are the way of the MMO these days, and that is because we live in the era of Generation Y. Generation Y wants instant gratification and has a sense of entitlement, which is exactly what you are saying is destroying the game. WoW has been a double edged sword in the gaming industry. It brought MMOs to the mainstream of gaming, but nearly everyone that it brought to the market has this mentality.

Bash them all you want, but any smart company is going to focus its product around its demographic, which is Gen Y. The bottom line is, SOE is a company and making money is their number one goal.

I, myself, am a Gen Y but I do not match the stereotype of the generation, but stereotypes do exist for a reason.

You're. Not. Listening.

I realize casuals are the majority HOWEVER in EQ2 they get the majority of content ALREADY.

Also, SOE has seen fit to introduce brand new games where 100% of the content is for that market.

I was merely stating that SOE does not need to GIVE ALL 100% OF EQ2'S CONTENT to the casual playerbase, even if they are the majority.

RAs? Not needed. Raid zones with ezmode fake boss fights so scrubs can "see" the art? Fuck you.

The majority already gets the majority of content skewed toward them. They do NOT need it all.

This raid zone easy/medium/hard thing is going to fail monumentally, if you cant see that you havent been playing eq2 long enough

Really sucks to see stuff like this waste developer time, instead of incorporating fun things that are already known to work they always have to introduce something new to ruin an expansion and then promise to fix it next expansion.

Honestly I wish I never read a single thing from this years fanfaire because it did the exact opposite of making me excited.

I think the difficulty thing is going to be an amazing success.

In case you didn't realize it, we've already had this in game for awhile in some form or fashion. What they are doing is giving you better loot for clearing a zone in a more difficult way.

Look at Switchmaster. You could choose how you fought him.... though everyone pretty much chose the same way, because one option was harder. Now imagine if that harder option yielded better loot?

Look at Shard of Hate... The sisters? I'm pretty sure if you went straight to them without the eye... you would activate all 5. Now imagine that if you kill all 5, you get better loot? (Which actually makes me wonder if this has even been done yet).

Hell... even Tangrin. You can choose not to get the beehive, and just beat him down through his heal. Granted it's easier to do now with more dps... still there are 2 ways to do it.

People don't realize the huge benefits of this also. Imagine now, how much more time they will be able to devote to raid content, considering that it will be useful for a larger portion of the population? I think we'll see huge gains from this.

Except that won't happen. The standard way will be the hard way, with the loot being normal shit that we're used to and it will scale downward.

All they'll do is tack on some bullshit scripting where you do some tank and spank henchmen fight so people can say they "saw" Ykesha or whatever, and that will be the easier modes.

Then, they'll totally fuck up progression by putting amazing loot on the easy shit or having some super hard mob be in the middle of the zone and have everyone beat it on ezmode and then the final boss will be broken and barely working and then everyone will kill that motherfucker on "hard" mode for loot they shouldn't have been able to get yet.

Etc.

Not to mention the fact that you do less damage, he heals, and he stops AEing(which actually makes it easier.....)
