Re: New Shader Model 3.0 for eq2 :)
Umm... those pictures is kinda misleading. No shadows on 1.0 Shaders, and GPU Shadows on 3.0 Shaders?
EDIT: And a torch enabled on 3.0 Shaders, and not on 1.0?
Okay... looks a lot better, though.

Yeah, I noticed that about the shadows and torches too. I think it looks a lot better, but they should have done an apples to apples comparison. I can't wait to see this in game. I wonder if it is coming this year or if we are going to have to wait until February.

All those retard fanbois saying "wow" thoughout the video make me want to kill... "I play games because they're pretty.. durrrrr"
Capturing the shaders during runtime, one can see they're 1.1, not 1.0 shaders - not that it really makes that much difference (but shows he's just another SoE lying fuckhead and/or doesn't know what he's talking about).
As for his touted feat of translating 3000+ shaders from an "archaic language" to something new, he is taking hand writen assembly and going to high level shader language. But he's admitting to just automating it with a translator while trying to sound like a bad-ass; what a fucking tool.
"Oh nos! they're different syntaxes!"
No shit "Graphics Guy Ryan", both of which you're supposed to be intimately firmiliar with already. Not that it should matter at all, because if the original devs commented thier code like they should have, it would be trivial to write new ones in HLSL from scratch without having to look at the old assembly at all. Much of it, such as specular lighting and bump mapping, he should be able to implement with his eyes closed and one arm tied behind his back.
Any performance gained from single pass shading is just going to be lost if that old assembly runs at speeds comparable to an emulator due to horrible translation.
Looking through the current shaders, you can see plenty of gems like single instruction pixel shaders with zero texture lookups that set every output to a constant. That's certainly difficult to translate there oh guru of the graphics cards, better spend 2 days work on each of those.
His shit job on GPU shadows does not impress. I turned that off quickly after the glaring flickering and artifacts from inconsistant rendering when moving around, no wonder he only showed those apple-to-oranges stills and not any captured video or a realtime demo.

If this makes the game run faster without a degradation in graphics quality, fine whatever. Everything else, imo, is just fluff.

omfg i can't wait. I really hope in the process they allow for crossfire SLI so people with multi cards can get some use out of them as well.

It probably would of been stable with water cooling, but at the time I wasnt in the mood to mess with all the tubing and shit. And 4.2-4.4 is pushing even the 8400 chip.
The I7 went straight to 4.0 without a hitch. It can probably go higher but it is such a good chip I don't feel like increasing the voltage and increasing the heat. I plan to stay with that chip for at least 2 years. Point being the I7 is a phenominal chip and that is not by just my experience. That has been stated all over as well.
Basically for me the I7 was able to push it to a point where I get 30+ fps in raids on extreme quality. Usually anything below ~20-25fps annoy me with the stuttering and graphical lag.

What vid card you have in your new i7 system?
and what resolution are you at with 30fps in raid? just curious.
My old x2 4400+ system died and i'm on laptop currently but I ordered 4gb ram and motherboard and plan on picking up a Q9550 and OC'ing it. Wanted i7 but couldn't afford it + some work I gotta do on my boat this summer bleh. Fucking boats, Boat=Break Out Another Thousand
