MMO's are about the grind. You constantly shed old spells and gear like a snake sheds its skin. Either get on board with that or find a new fucking genre [alternative: continue to play MMO's but whine and complain like an idiot about things you know will never change].

If you want a meaningless numbers grind with less emotional attachment traps to fall into, go buy a bigass sudoku book and sit your fat ass on the fucking couch and pretend you're having fun.
QFE. The people wining now are the same people that wined when RoK got a level cap increase because they didn't want to start all over again. Welcome to MMOs.

And the game does not have a hard cap at 100. A dev said that back in 2003 that the current system had the ability to scale and threw the 100 number out there as an example. I have also heard 250 thrown out there by devs, but don't expect that this is going to cap out at 100.

at 80, your lvl 80 items will function at 100% of listed stats. Those stats will gradually decay to the point where at lvl 90, they are only 33% as good as they were when you were at lvl 80.

At least thats what I heard. I know alot of people have this backwards, but this is what I walked away with.
That's exactly what I walked away with too. Your items degrade for every level that you go up, with them at 33% at 10 levels.

Also nothing was said about the degredation -stopping- at 10 levels either.

They better not stop at level 100. I've still got a blackwater mask in my bank that I swear I'm gunna wear when I hit lvl 150.

It's this little human instinct relating to private ownership of property that I'm not sure you understand.

My question is if I'm lvl 85 wearing all lvl 80 gear if I mentor to 80 will my gear have its full effectiveness? If thats the case and it encourages ppl to clear content at its intended lvl than I can see this change being acceptable. But if I'm lvl 85 and less effective against the same mob as I was at lvl 80 that is going to blow.

And about spell/ca upgrades there was very little difference between m1 T7 and a3 T8, for some classes/abilities it was actually worse I don't imagine this would be any different from t8-t9 so until you start getting masters in t9 its not like spell upgrades are going to offset losses from gear at all.

That has nothing to do with the discussion. Currently, if I were to level to 90 and wear a bloodthirsty choker the bloodthirsty choker would work as advertised.

New system if I level to 90 and wear the bloodthirsty choker, its useless.

This is forced gear progression. Not only that it's probably going to be forced gear replacement as I doubt they make upgrades for the truly good gear.

Sure, most new tiers a lot of stuff gets replaced, but a lot of stuff also didn't. The players also had the choice of what to replace and with what. Under this new system that won't be true.

Isn't.. making a mob so difficult that you need better gear to kill it ALSO forced gear progression? You are FORCED to upgrade if you want to kill next tier mobs.

Making mobs hard doesn't make items useless. It makes crit mit valuable, but not required.

For instance: Gynok died to a raid in almost 100% RoK gear. In the new expansion this wouldn't be possible. They would have to regear totally to stand a chance against zone bosses.

Isnt' this WHOLE thread based off speculation from an idea the devs might or might not implement, they themselves not even knowing all the details of it yet? lol
