That is, of course, the prime example that I was building my argument around. Plenty others exist, but this item would likely still be worn at L90 if gear scaling wasn't implemented. Anyone think that's good itemization? Come on... anyone?
They either flat out nerf the items that are so powerful that players will still be wearing them two full tiers later, or they implement a dynamic scaling system to automatically do it for them. I'd rather the gear scaled. Quite frankly, it's easier to itemize for the devs because they are considering dramatically smaller pools of items to balance against.

The solution here is to vastly increase the amount of exp given for killing old tier epic mobs (this can be a multiplier that's adjusted for current tier whenever the next tier gets released). It should be substantial enough that people are willing to take the time to find 20-some other people to bring along and raid T5/6/7 content on a nightly basis as a means to level.
Any of the 3 types of content [SOLO, HEROIC, EPIC] should allow players to level at the same rate, with no penalties or tradeoffs. Put an AA<-->ADV slider in, and balance the base rate of exp gain for all 3 types to make them equally viable. Boom... you've just given your entire playerbase the most fair set of playstyle choices possible. You've encouraged grouping (and mass grouping to raid), which builds the community. GENIUS? I think so!
