Well, maybe the discussion can end, but I've lost interest in playing the game since the gear downscaling news came out. Apparently, others with avatar geared toons have as well -- and they've been selling in unprecedented numbers on Livegamer (which appears to be broken today).

At any rate, is there any other similar game you would all recommend for the next 6 mos?

The only game with a remote chance of being good is the new Star Wars: The Old Republic game from Bioware, but that won't even be out until November.

But I wouldn't take the opinions from the Bazaar server as a general consensus to how the rest of the EQ2 population feels.

I'm waiting for tomorrow so i can get into beta 4 for Aion, I am already coming up with excuses for not showing up to work as I type this.

I have been playing the Aion beta (Chinese version with English crack). It is a fun game, but the gameplay is almost identical to Guild Wars. The flying thing is fun at first, but it loses its luster. Kind of like getting your first mount in EQ2.

It is a solo grind to level up and then PvP takes the center stage.

Well, people who've made up their mind to quit have their reasons, and I'd like to hear them. All too often they just quit, put a character up for sale on the Bazaar, and it disappears into the black hole of the exchange server culture, and we either don't hear from them again or they stop by occasionally to rant incoherently. [BTW, I'm against the idea of separate exchange servers, especially being able to transfer onto them to sell an account... I think it should either be all or nothing as far as the EULA and RMT is concerned. This separate-but-equal shit is kind of clunky. "Exchange" servers truly do become a void, a shadow of what the game community should be.]

More importantly though (thinking like a dev here), I'd like to hear the reasons why the people who continue to play a game want to stay. What is it that you like about a game that's keeping you here instead of over at Game X?

Leverage the successes, work on the failures. Keep devoting energy towards improving the areas that need it the most. Keep doing what works, and fix what doesn't work. Sometimes the "fix" required is a paradigm shift... and there's nothing inherently good or bad about that, it just has to work with the overall theme of the game.

Said it half a dozen times, I'll say it again: there is no reason to get all up in arms over this until SF beta comes out. Play through it from L80-90. Please. Level up, do some heroic content, do some raid content, see how the difficulty and the item progression "feels" before you scream about how dumb it is. No one has any ground to argue how that feels right now, because it's just a big fucking thought experiment at this point. Give the devs a fucking chance to fix things here, because I'd like to have a game that I know is going to be fun and engaging for another 4 years, regardless of what else comes to market.

These MMOs are microcosms of society, there is an ebb and flow to things naturally people are going to come an go for whatever reason but where we are with this thread is pretty funny to me. We have landed on the crux of the problem with this game in general. That is RMT.

A game built on RMT is not game with a solid core of people who love to PLAY the game. It's a game full of people trying to "cash in" or people who aren't really interested in the spirit of really playing the game the way it's meant to be played.

Greed is killing this game and it's painfully obvious.
