My daughters hamster escaped last night but we found it this morning in a shoe. I don't think the two are connected but the SOE boards are currently down this morning and have been for a while.

SoE has been using illegally immigrated hamsters. I believe they were all deported early monday morning, and it may take 5 or 6 more hours to replace said hamsters.

Seriously is anyone over at SOE even working on the forums. I have seen no fixes to anything.

The forums have been stable on my end for at least 4 or 5 days now. What isn't working?

While they have generally been available, there has been some unannounced downtime.

Copied from thread : http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/p...opic_id=350868

Functionality Not Working Right

These issues describe where something the forum software advertises to do is not working correctly. Note that this is for actual bugs and not features the community simply dislikes the implementation of.

  • “Notify when a reply is posted” not working.
    • When replying to a post, posters have a “Notify when a reply is posted” checkbox which when enabled, appears to do nothing. If someone a replies, e-mail is not sent.
  • “Send e-mail when a private message is sent to me” not working.
    • In the profile, there is an option labelled “Send e-mail when a private message is sent to me”, which when enabled, appears to do nothing. Someone sending a PM does not generate an e-mail to the address on file in the profile.
  • Read vs Unread Posts
    • Logging out or closing browser and reopening seems to cause all posts to be marked as read.
  • “Duplicate post submission” error
    • “Duplicate post submission” error seems to appear when submitting a reply to a post after opening additional threads in another window/tab while working on the reply.
  • Editing Lithium-created posts causes errors
    • Editing Lithium forum-created posts with the new forum software can cause messy results (WORKAROUND: Create brand new thread instead of editing old post).
  • WYSIWYG Editor does not always result in identical post
    • Particularly when more complex formatting is used in posts, what is displayed in the WYSIWYG editor is not always what appears after the post is submitted. See example of one case here.
  • "target=_new" being used for links
    • The post editor adds a "target=_new" to open links in a new window. This may work with IE, but all other browsers use "target=_blank" for this. The _new results in multiple links all being opened in the same page called "_new".
  • "-1" Answers
    • When browsing a forum, sometimes the "Answers" column displays a "-1". See this thread.
  • Horizontal size of the browser window being calculated improperly
    • Possibly due to using "large system fonts" or other tweaks the forum software seems to be miscalculating the width of the browser window and is resulting in having to scroll horizontally to read an entire post. See this thread.
Desired Functionality Lost

This is a list of functionality present in the Lithium forum software but was lost after the forum transition that the community feels is important.

  • Search by date
    • Search results are not sorted or sortable by date. Need this functionality, particularly when there are many results.
  • Advanced search options
    • The search form as it is does not offer enough features to allow complex searches. Search only subjects, search only posts written by a certain author, and search posts within a certain date range are desirable.
  • Self float/sticky
    • The ability to bookmark, float, or sticky threads and forums for oneself is no longer present and is desirable (WORKAROUND: Use browser bookmark/favorite feature).
  • Timezone setting
    • In the profile, the community would like the ability to specify the timezone to display posts/threads in.
  • RSS Feeds
    • RSS feeds for the forums and trackers are highly desired by fan sites and others.
  • Post preview
    • While the post editor is quite nice looking, it does have some quirks and a “post preview” would be nice to prevent any issues.
  • Spell checker
    • The non-perfect spellers in the community would like a spell checker function (WORKAROUND: Browsers such as Firefox have built-in spell-as-you-type functionality)
  • HTML editor
    • While the post editor is quite nice looking, it does have some quirks and having the ability to edit the raw HTML would make it so the end result appears as intended.
  • Different icon for threads you have replied to
    • After replying to a given thread, there is a desire to see a different icon that would indicate the individual has participated in that thread.
  • “Messages posted” in tracker format
    • Posters would like a tracker-like view (similar to the “topics created by” or Dev Tracker) for the “Messages posted by” link in a profile.
  • Friends list
    • Ability to track posts and online status of a defined list of friends.
  • Ignore list
    • Ability to ignore PM's of a defined list of posters.
  • Promote/demote text
    • WYSIWYG editor should have ability to indent/demote text.
  • IMG/URL indicator
    • Would like an indicator that shows whether the original post in a thread has an image or URL in it in the forum view.
  • Previous/Next thread
    • While reading a thread, members of the community have expressed a desire to have "Previous Thread" and "Next Thread" links available.
  • First/Last Links
    • While reading a thread consisting of many pages, it is desirable to have links to quickly reach the first or last page in the thread.
  • Makes names link to profile when viewing a thread
    • While viewing a thread, the forum name displayed in a post is not clickable as it was previously. This should link to the poster's profile.

Wishlist

This is a list of functionality the community would like to see but was not present before nor is it something that is currently bugged.

  • More forum skins/variety
    • More/different forum skins are desirable. The current skins all have a dark background with light foreground and some more variety/choices are desirable.
  • Date/time format
    • International posters would like the ability in the profile to be able to specify the format for date/time.
  • Ignore list
    • Ability to ignore posts/threads of a defined list of posters.
  • Post-as-character & unguilded characters
    • Post-as-character seems to only be available to guilded characters. Would like ability for unguilded characters to post as well.
  • Table Editor
    • The ability to create/edit tables in the WYSIWYG editor is desirable.
  • Replies to PM's add too many "Re:"
    • When you reply to a PM, the forum software prepends "Re:" regardless of the number of times it has been replied to. This can result in several "Re:" prepended to the subject.
  • Replies to PM's prepends "Re:" to the subject without space
    • When you reply to a PM, the forum software prepends "Re:" before the subject, but does not include a space after the colon.
  • Ability to disable signature viewing
    • A preference is desired by some in the community that disables the display of signatures while viewing threads.

Or threads like this one, where they apparently have some caching issues, and there are very real security concerns since it appears that they are not using secure professional tools.

_Thread copied in case they remove it which they probably will.

Normally, I don't login to the forums if I'm just browsing. I normally don't have the 'auto-login at each visit turned on.
Just now I brought up the forums, and wasn't logged in. Right at the top of the boards in bold red text was a message saying 'You have been Banned...blah blah'
Huh?
I logged in, and it went away. Obviously I haven't been banned (thank goodness) as I'm posting here - and I wouldn't do anything to get me banned anyway....
Have SOE switched on some global flag that automatically brings this message up even if not logged in? Hopefully, that's all it is ....

Of your not working right seven of those I'd agree are something that needs to be fixed at first opportunity. The rest would be nice but I wouldn't consider them broken based on it.

The missing functionality I'm sure they'll add as time goes on.

The forums haven't crashed on me in over a week now. I think it's obvious they are doing something, just might not be as fast as everyone likes.

If the crashing was code related, and not bandwidth or server stability.

The above issues are code work, stability is often tech work. although those two worlds bleed a lot.
