"If you bought plat on the Najena server in 2005, you bought it from me" -Petgroup
Let me start it out with how my exploit worked. Everyone remembers when alchemists were making a killing at making gold because all they did was just sell off the ink to brokers rather than putting it on the market. You could combine a few items together, make some ink and it was double the price. Well, when Sony decided that wasn't fair that started making changes to all the components.
So when the ink change went into effect, someone told me some resin vials (I forget the name of them now) were still selling at what they did before the patch, so everyone started making those particular ones. I decided to make a few stacks of some other pointless Golgi resin on my autocrafter and go to sleep. I woke up to the login screen because the server went down again to patch things which included all those vials people were making.
When I logged back in to sell all my autocrafted items to the broker, I ended up with like 500 plat. Remember this was like January 2005. I nearly shit my pants. I was like how in the fuck did I end up with so much money. It turns out in that patch, the fucked up the price of the Golgi resin to some crazy amount. So I started buying all the roots I could off the broker and autocrafted away.
As friggin usual, the server goes down the next day, and they patched the resins I was exploiting but that wasn't my exploit that made me close to $60,000. If I made a stack of the new resins it was like 64s but when I took out 2 of the 20 and added it on to the plat stack, it made them into plat ones instead!!! I was ecstatic.
After this happened, I was buying roots off the broker for more than they were worth. I needed as many roots as I could buy. People were sending me tells all the time wondering wtf I was doing with so many roots. I kept saying I loved crafting.
At this point, I got greedy. I turned to Playerauctions to start selling my plat AND to buy 3 more crafters to keep up. I bought 4 cheapo Dell computers and had all these bots crafting for me overnight. I was buying roots at this time from all the bot farmers. I was making thousands of plat a day and selling it at auction for well below the price all the normal people on there were. I had the Najena server locked down for close to 6 months. Nobody was buying anyone's plat but mine. It was the cheapest and I delivered withing 10 minutes of payment. You would be surprised at the players buying plat from my little level 1 toon. They were some big name guys on Najena back then. Even some guildies. I was not in Second Dawn back then either for all you haters, I belive it was Legion at that time. They never knew it was me and I never ratted anyone out. I had some people spending $500 a day with me.
So, I had the Najena server locked down but what about other servers? All I needed was for them to open up server transfers and I would have been a multi-millionaire. Nobody would have been able to produce that much plat so fast when it was actually worth something.
The day finally came, the devs posted server transfers would be opening up soon. I could not control myself. I was going to be even richer than I was from this. I started buying level 50 or 60 (whatever the max was back then) crafters on each server in anticipation of the xfers. All I needed was to get 1 of my plat stacks over to each server and it
woulda been $$$
I woke up on the eventual server transfer day. I went to make my plat stacks to sell to the broker and they were only making 64s ones instead of plat. I thought I did something wrong. I tried and tried every which way. I did it on other toons, opening up trade windows, bank slots etc. Nothing worked. The day server xfers came out was the day they patched my exploit. I never once got an email from a GM, not once was reported for afk tradeskilling (in 2005 anyways lol) or even a letter saying anything about what I did. I was able to make millions of plat and trade it all away without any notice.
After my exploit was patched, I still tried making plat and selling for a few months but eventually my supply was running low and the gold it took to make things became not worth it as plat prices were dropping. If only server transfers opened sooner, I would have made a killing.
In the end, I ended up making about $60k, had 6 computers at that time and more characters than I knew what to do with. Unfortunately, I was young/stupid and most of that money went to my girlfriend at the times bills.
Ahh well. The best exploits are the ones you make real life dough with. I made a killing back then and had a blast. I still have 1 stack left of the plat resin on one of my canceled accounts on a level 1 toon as a memory of what I did. I also gave 1 stack to my real life best friend who played on Najena to hold for me just in case
I would have posted the link to my Playerauctions profile with my feedback but the account for some reason got banned a few years ago and doesn't exist anymore but I do have over 500 end of auction emails I was able to find. I'm sure there is a shit ton more but you get the idea of it. Surprisingly, I only got ripped off about 5x. The players on Najena were very trustworthy for some reason.
