Little late in the thread, but wanted to comment on it all around.

To whoever was questioning why a good guild would have to advertise for recruitment, here is something to consider.

Pepsi is known world wide, people drink pepsi all the time, wether its a drive thru at taco bell, at a picnic, a ball game, or just grabing a 20 ounce from the store, yet pepsu spends millions and millions yearly advertising every corner of every billboard, every sporting event, and continue to make commercials.

Whats the point of advertising? To keep your product on peoples mind so that when someone is sitting at a grocery store and facing a 2 liter of coca-cola and pepsi, the advertisment hopes to point people in there direction.

How we convert this to Everquest? Well a guild advertises such as mine that they are looking for members and certain members, we obviously dont take anyone thats willing to join our guild, but we let them know that we are taking applications, then when server transfers come up, our guild is one of the guilds that are on peoples mind, in hopes that 5% of the people that applied are worth a shit, and select which you want.

We get applicants everyday, infact we in the past 8 months have had over 250 applicants, that is about 1 applicant a day, there are 28 people in our guild, meaning we took the best 28.

Question is why wouldn't you advertise that your recruiting to get the largest selection available and hand picking who you want, instead of setteling for who you have available to you at the time.


And to the idea of giving top guilds a higher respect, there is no real way of figuring who the WW best guilds are apart from all the guilds that have the balls to transfer to 1 server and try to outlast eachother. Go by WW 1st kills? Track record from 2 expansions ago? most consistant? best geared members? fastest to a contested? All that doesn't matter because no matter what 1 person says, it is always debateable.

Why give Dr Pepper more air time then pepsi? If people don't wanna use a recruitment tool you were smart enough to offer LFG, fuck em.

What the hell is with WW top 5 shit? Just seems weird. Man back in EQ1 I didn't even know who Fires of Heaven was. Why? because they did not effect game play on Emarr what-so-ever.

Besides anything below First still means you lost. I think its cool to know who killed what first now, but why Rank it? Either you did it first or you didn't.

If you really want to Rank Top 5 guilds ask Sony to hold a guild Best of the best. But heaven forbid they actually make a Event more meaningful then Erollisi Day =/

In a game with instances and server transfers, server domination means nothing. So you can clear an instance before another guild on your server, does that mean you're worth a fuck? No, it means absolutely nothing. All that matters is how you're doing on a Worldwide scale. Let's face it, if you aren't doing things in the top few, it means you're probably going to be getting strats from another guild because of how bad you are.

Whereas in EQ1, server domination meant everything. If a guild was dominating your server, that means they were killing everything before you and not letting you kill it. Thus it had meaning.
