Wanted: Criteria to Identify the Top 5 Guilds World Wide

An interesting discussion started in NPU's recruitment post here:

Basically, Ishbu commented in NPU's thread that he was surprised a top WW guild would use the "Help Wanted" section on this site to help recruit players.

This is no slam on Ishbu in anyway, if his perception is that having a recruiting thread on this site is lame, that's reality to him. But, I'd like to take this opportunity to change that so recruiting here is perceived to be more prestigious by more guilds.

So that got me to thinking - if I made it so that the top 5 WW guilds would receive some sort of special designation, by identifying them as top 5 WW guilds in the recruiting section, would that make listing guild openings on this site more desirable/presigious to more uber guilds?

The very act of identifying 5 guilds and calling them the top 5 guilds WW would be sure to create disagreement, drama and controvery.

And that's why I like the idea, because those things are forms of entertainment on this site.

So I'd like feedback on the following:

1. What criteria can be used to establish/identify the top 5 guilds worldwide?

2. Based on that criteria, which 5 EQ2 guilds are the top 5 guilds worldwide?

3. What criteria would be used to decide when a lower guild had become a top 5 guild, and replace one of the existing top 5 guilds?

4. And if we were able to decide all this and make it into a rule set, so that we could reasonably quantify the top 5 guilds WW at any given time, and if I then stickied the recruiting threads of those top 5 guilds in the recruiting forum with gold stars or some sort of special mark designating them as top 5 guilds, would those guilds all use the recruiting forum?

The Help Wanted section on this site is one of the top 5 sections on this site, in terms of page views, so I'd like to increase it's use by other top raid guilds, because I believe the increased exposure will help maximize the number and quality of their applicants.

If you think this is a totally lame, stupid idea, feel free to say that, you won't hurt my feelings. I look at my job here as to try and identify fun and cool new things to do that are associated with EQ2, to promote EQ2 in the irreverent style our format is based on.

If Ishbu doesn't like the idea he's not going to post regardless of if you name Disso a top 5 guild.

I didnt say that NPU posting there was lame, I was just surprised they would. Guilds like NPU generally have more people asking them about applying then they will ever care to deal with.

Sure there are always a class or 2 your recruiting but generally throughout history of MMO's the top guilds havent been able to find people worth a shit on a public forum. Its just not the place I would look so it kind of took me by surprise.

Oh I think I would have to have a laugh at henlader over the subject of this thread...

LFG, I think parameters would have to be set over what period of time we were talking...certainly world wide 1sts, 2nds and 3rds etc, dominance of server(as in obtaining their own server firsts/keeping contesteds on lockdown)

I think the top guilds will probably be towards the top any way, without being stickied. Simply because more people will probably respond. I guess many people will respond via pm, email, or in game rather than in the post, but if a guild wanted to be towards the top of the list, all they'd have to do is bump. Maybe they won't be stickied, but if someone is looking in that section, they are gonna look beyond the sticky section any way.
Doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, or that you can't have some method of determining who the top guilds are. I think top raiding guilds would have to be completing the newest content quickly. Not neccessarily the fastest, because many guilds are very good and clear the same content, but can't all be sitting at the pc for the many hours that other guilds can. Maybe they could supply parses and take averages over several tough encounters, that'd just be one part. Maybe one part could be who has the coolest video of completing some tough encounters.

Edit: about what Venekor said about keeping contesteds on lockdown. Ya this could be one more part, but obviously this is gonna be alot easier for some guilds, depending on the number of serious raiding guilds on their server. So, even if you're like #3 at getting contesteds on your server, you may completely dominate on another server.

Yeah, Ishbu didn't say it was lame, just suprising, and he's right. It's not something you see every day.

Which is why I didn't take offense to any of it, or else I woulda been all RAWR and he woulda been all STEGOSAURUS...and I would have lost the battle.

We're cool, this entire thing was just a thought by me to try and introduce something that would bring more use to that section, no big deal.
