9/9 servers down, who's got the news?

OK, I havent been around much, I know the servers are down for appx 12 hours today, but missed the news on why.

Anyone know a non sony site with info? Wiki just has the line about them going down at 0000 PST for 12 hours.

All I know is I find myself reading every single goddamn thread on Flames, I am THAT bored. And it's only 8.23 AM. I hate this game.

theyre doing database maintenance.

Database updates.

I assume its related to issues they were seeing a few weeks back on Nagafen, AB and other servers with people getting 5-10 min zone times and equally long broker transactions. They said once they had a fix lined up for those few servers they'd push it across to all of them. Once again, I'm assuming, so the database update could just be something unrelated that they haven't explained.

A large-scale database outage like this HAD to happen in order for them to implement changes to the database required for when racial respecs go live. I believe that is why we have our outage today.

Yep, adding the new tags to all those items would definitely require some maintenance.

I just wonder why it always has to be on a time where it affects the WHOLE day of us europeans. The servers will be up at 9pm my time (if they dont get them up before that). For once they should think about all the europeans players and make the american players suffer more and lose playtime. And i wonder why this always happens on my days off lol

Twelve hours downtime to implement racial respecs? Bleh. For the life of me, I can't understand why they're spending so much work to tweak such a minor part of the game. Likely as not, we'll see a bunch of new bugs when the servers come up.

There will be maintenance on the Session databases across all games on Wednesday September 9, 2009. It will begin at 12AM PDT and is estimated to last until 12PM PDT. All game worlds will be unavailable for the estimated 12 hour maintenance, as well as the Station Store and all commerce avenues. This may affect the performance of the forums and any or all accounts’ abilities to log in.!
