This happened to me recently as well. I also think it is an inside job because all 4 accounts Ive ever had were taken. 2 I currently use, but the other two had no active subscription and I hadnt logged into for over a year. The only explaination on how I can see how they got the 2 accounts that I havent used in over a year is an inside job. I ran malware bytes, adaware, and AVG all updated to the latest definitions with no detections of any kind.

Sony reimbursed everything on the 2 accounts that I used as they were stripped. The other 2 had no subscription so they couldnt do anything to them really.

Im going to add something that happened to me though that I havent heard anyone else mention yet. After i had regained my accounts, after about a week I try to login in to one of them, and it says my account is closed. So im like great what the fuck is going on now. So i talk to sony and apparently my account was closed because of a chargeback on a credit card on my account, and that they wouldnt reopen my account until the chargeback was paid.

I was like WTF ok whatever just tell me how much it is so I can pay it and get this shit fixed so I can play, thinking it was a month or two subscription fee for some reason. Then they tell me the chargeback fee was $150. And I was pissed. Come to find out they charged $150 worth of station cash when they stole my account, on THEIR OWN credit card (or a stolen one) then later did a chargeback, putting the burden on me. I told sony this happened while my account was stolen, I showed them their ticket number of when they were restoring my account for me and how the charges were during the time it was stolen. They said they didnt care, that account security was my responsibility and they would not reinstate my account until I paid it. $150 is not a lot of money, but to have to pay it for no reason, because someone else is a fuckwad really pissed me off.

Nice way for sony to make some extra cash on the side through station cash huh?

I recommend using Keepass to securely store and rotate all of your passwords every 60 days. You can set your passwords to rotate automatically every set amount of days. Keepass can also generate strong encrypted passwords for you so that you never even need to know your own password! All you do is copy and paste the password from Keepass to the Application you need.

I don't understand how keyloggers can allow someone access to your account. I never ever ever type in my username. So even if i have a keylogger and they have my password, what good does it do them?

Pretty sure the problem is arising because people are changing their password on the computer with the keylogger. When you change your password, I think you have to enter your account name, the answer to your secret question, and whatever else. At that point they would have everything. So yeah, if there's really a recent rash of this, it can be chalked up to sony scaring everyone into changing passwords needlessly.

The name is always already in the box, I only have 1 account. Even when i visit the official forums, my web browser auto populates the login box. Plus, I don't visit any websites other than eq2interface on my eq2 box.
