It's fair to say, based on all the public information I've seen, that IGE, Ogaming, and Allakazam ultimately belong to the same common owner.

Tamat and Ogaming have always been quick to deny that they Ogaming is IGE, or that Ogaming is owned by IGE. That is technically truthful, since Ogaming and IGE are different legal entities. Ogaming and Allakazam are now both owned by ZAM Network. The ZAM Network has a common owner with IGE. That makes ZAM and IGE sister corporations.

It's all just a shell game, structured to avoid the appearance that IGE = Ogaming or ZAM. But that doesn't change the fact that profit from IGE plat sales and profit from ZAM ultimately end up in the same pocket.

I'm sure they do it for the love of the game LFG, not the profit.

Agreed, I saw that announcement about Zam and rolled my eyes wondering if it was going to go the same way that Alla went with a general lack of content. No matter how you look at it, they share the same interests and profits.

On a lighter side, think of the in-game CS support. Instead of getting "is there anything else I can help you with" you would get "would you like to order some Plat while I have you online?"

Other than that, I've always thought of him as the "face" of EQ2. I don't really think it's his job to be the "go-between" for the players and the devs, the devs do a pretty good job of keeping up with the forums and the playerbase, so they don't need it. BG just seemed to be the real life person that people can interact with on a reliable basis, who oversaw the community issues, modding, forums, and representation of the EQ2 staff on a official basis when Brenlo wasn't doing it.
As far as the dev's doing a good job I'll agree for the most part, but not always imo. I don't think he would be a 'go-between' all the time, but I think on ocassion he would. I'm sure Raijinn and Blackguard do more than I'm aware.

I think it's more of a presence thing. You see someone like that leave and it shakes up the community a bit. Sorta like seeing Captain Stubig <whatever his name was> jump off the love boat.

I dig BG. I don't think he ever cared for me all that much, but he always tolerated me. :D I think I was a teeny bit too much of a red name groupie. He kind of intimidated me because he was always so quiet and abrupt with me, so I would swing between not knowing what to say, to yammering like a school girl. *rolls eyes* I am sucha dork, tis true.

I'll totally miss him though..he's been around since I've been involved with EQ2, and it'll be weird not seeing him around.

I wouldn't say it's fair, I'd say it's factual period. Seperate legal entities funded by the same organization. It's like saying Sony Pictures and SOE are different. They are, but I'm sure they both appear on the stockholders report every year.

I don't know how much is publically available about the company I work for, but we seem to hardly be trying to keep it secret. We take plat sales serious enough that we aren't allowed to even link to anything with a plat ad on it.

It's going to be interesting watching how this all unfolds.

So who in the heck is that? Been registered nearly a year and I've never heard of them.

I'm not thinking so. They've been registered since 2005. I think that is probably one of the executives although I can't find that name anywhere.
