Default EQ2 on a Mac

A little backstory: My mom got one of the new Mac Minis and has begun the long and somewhat confusing process of learning to use it after years with a PC. She was looking to change her screensaver so I was helping her find it, and as I scrolled through the system prefrences, I saw the graphics card: an nVidia GeForce 9400.

That's the same graphics card I had in my computer!

My dad works for a company called Western Digital where he designs hard drives. When I told him about the graphics card in the Mac Mini, he assured me that the things were powerful little buggers. So I wondered to myself if they could possibly run EQ2 on them. My dad told me they could, if I used the proper conversion software.

But then I began to wonder why SoE doesn't make a Mac version of the game. My dad argued that it's a business deal; they want to appeal to the majority of computer owners (PC's) rather than the minority (Macs). We both seemed pretty unsure about it, though.

Why doesn't SoE have a Mac version of Everquest II?

All theories and ideas are welcome, from businessmen to techies, overqualified professors and underqualified dropouts!

Because it would cost them too much to port the from Direct3D to OpenGL and to port the entire front-end from Windows to Cocoa. The money making isn't there. Not to mention it would take much longer for patches to come out because now they have an even larger codebase, not to mention even more internal testing required. It just isn't worth the effort. Not to mention with the fact that you could just slap VMWare Fusion, VirtualBox, or Parallels on the Mac and run Windows in a VM with decent 3D Support instead.

Not to mention, look at how EQ Mac fairs, no updates since 5+ years ago, awesome. Why they ported it separately nobody knows.

Is that the undisputed correct answer or is it a contributing factor?

I used to run EQ2 on my 24" iMac. Now that Apple has bootcamp, there really is no need to release a mac version. Just install bootcamp, install windows XP, and then install EQ2. It ran really well, and looked great.

Because Mac is less than 10 percent of the gaming market, and SOE has trouble supporting itself on the 90 percent that use PCs.

It would be a horrible investment.

That 9400 isnt the best either Or even good really. After the new ATI cards come out you will be able to get a card that maxes everything out for like 90$
