Any game this size cant have all chat text voiced for space and cost reasons. Discussion over.
And yea, there should maybe be cool vids for killing the end bosses, aka Anashti, Gynok, Ykesha, Munzok, Zarrakon.

Since when are words not enough for immersion? I've felt greater immersion reading tons of novels/books than seeing actual movies. Watch the movie Misery and then read the book Misery - you tell me which is more immersive. If writing is done good, it can be really good.

Then you fail to understand the story. Half of it is all about perspective, and you don't get that without "the needless bullshit".
That's like reading Lord of the Rings, and getting pissy that the story was too long and would've been better off being:
"Bilbo gives a ring to Frodo who throws it into a fire. The end"

I prefer this version:
"Bilbo gives..." *click*
You have gained an Alternate Acheivement Point!
The end

If I want to read a novel Ill buy a book, these quest dialogues are long winded and tedious. Furthermore these dialogues arent amazingly written works of art. I cant believe you actually compared some SoE intern to Tolkien. for shame

Are you a fan of silent films?

Where in the discussion were voiceovers mandated? Old school RPG's had ridiculously good plotlines with a mere fraction of the text spam. The way you do it is with cinematic sequences and then a save point right after. But because MMO's are innately persistent, there's no need for a repeat.

Roger Uzun (Patherpanchali) is the raid developer for EQ2 and he neither likes the players nor respects them.
His piss poor work kept telling me that I should cancel my accounts... so I finally listened!

When they are good.
Regardless of voice overs, the long winded shit and cinematics will still piss me off when they break the game pacing. I pay to play, not watch a movie or read a book in the middle of playing.

Are you a fan of tv shows with their extra long dialog?
Sounds like you aren't.

I watch old movies for it, I don't however play games for it. To put it in perspective, I played old RPGs that had dialog and sought it out as I played through multiple times, however, when the dialog/cinematics became more the focus than my play, I quit( fuck you Xeno Saga). I watch TV/ Movies for cinematics, I read books for leisurely strolls through the imagination, I play games to actually play and if anything fucks with any of those experiences, I don't like it.
In the specific case Illuminator showed here, I had to rush through the dialog to not hold up my group. I don't want to rush through what is at least a semi-interesting story, I don't want to be forced to speed read info that only presented in that dialog and maybe miss something. I play RPG's for the lore and immersive quality, it doesn't change the fact that in a game centered around quick paced combat in an amusement park world, dialog and back story is all too often presented in a way that's akin to waiting in line.
