Default MMO's and Social Networking

Mafia Wars on Facebook has, roughly, 25 million people who play it. Twenty. Five. Million. Sure, it's got small microtransactions, but by far you can play the hell out of it for free.

What I'm thinking here is this. It could be a great idea for an MMO developer to work with Zygna, or themselves to make a Mafia Wars-like game. A small, simple game. But interesting enough that you are constantly logging into it and futzing around.

Add some elements of the MMO storyline and use it as a marketing tool for the game once it launches. Boom. A huge pool of people you can market your product too around the globe.

25 million people? Maybe that clicked the stupid accept button and never looked at it again. A game like that is going to keep someone's attention for about 20 minutes and then they will move on.

How much would a company pay an advertiser if they could get 25 million people to see their ad .... once.

THIS. It's annoying when you need to print out some essay on sociology or whatever and some fuck is harvesting cranberries in FarmVille.

That being said a Facebook MMO would be probably open up privacy concerns hardcore (moreso than Facebook apps already have.)

SOE needs to develop a facebook app.

JOHNNY has invited you to play "Norrath Wars!" and has sent you 5 Platinum for free! Will you join the fight?

Harvesting cranberries is a more effective use of computers than anything a sociology course could accomplish.
