I'm not going to criticize someone for their playstyle, even if it is something that I am not interested in, but $25 just for your character appearance and no desire for racial abilities? They have illusions in the game, fyi.

Do the normal racial illusions work on mounts? I presume they don't since none of the other illusions do.

It all depends on which item you are using and which drunk SOE programmer created it.

There is no consistancy in this game whatsoever.

At one point I had a sarnak illusion that made me ride my mount standing up like surfboard style.

As long as the race in which you are becoming can ride mounts, then yes. IE: the droag illusion will not let you ride a mount without hiding the illusion but a fae illusion will.

That is not due to development inconsistency; that is due to a bug. I imagine it caused problems because the Sarnak were the first race to use a different skeleton technique. Has it been fixed?

I dont know but I have a multitude of illusions on my fury so maybe if I feel like it I will check it out and post up some of the inconsistancies I find. I think some of them may in fact be fixed.

There is one visual bug that keeps popping up with some illusions the LoN ones especially and it has to do with how weapon/shield items appear. Some have been fixed some not but it is a inconsistancy issue of whoever is programming/making illusions isn't testing them or they don't care that they don't look right or they figure they will wait till the players (i mean beta testers who pay to test things) complain to fix the problem that visually they are holding their weapon backwards or their shield is going through their arm etc ...

I think that was new in Gu53. Items being inside out or backwards. Like a mug being just a solid tube of metal. Just a minor bug. ;)
