Default Contested or Not Contested?

Part of the reason I play these games is to find some sense of realism. I don't know if I am a mouse chasing cheese with this, but I have learned to adapt to the way MMO's run now.

Contested: I beleive that contested harbors more pressure on players to go for what they want, brings more competition, and ultimately brings in more skilled players.

Non-Contested: I beleive that non-contested encounters make things more easily available for everyone, there is no sense of competition, there is less excitement, however the motivation is still there to be skilled (no one wants to whipe on an encounter for hours.)

Thought perspective: If real life were all instanced, would there be a point?

So which do you prefer?

EQ1 was 100% contested in every way for a long time, with raid bosses having a 3-7 day spawn timer. Epic quests also required killing these raid bosses for updates.

Wasn't pretty.

It's not an all or nothing thing. It is a good mix and match of both.

I fail to understand what you are asking....

Are you asking what we prefer? If so, there needs to be a couple other options like "Some Contested, mostly instanced" or "Some instances, mostly contested."

Are you asking what would be better IRL? If so... isn't most of our life "instanced" anyway? Everyone has their own challenges that they have to meet, whether alone or with some assistance. In any case, no single person walks the same path as someone else.

Yeah this.

Also the IRL thing confuses me. I don't know what you're saying there.

I'm not sure how mala is saying real life isn't contested. The thought that real life is instanced is kind of making me laugh. Maybe school could be seen as instanced, or mostly instanced.

well i guess everybody is interpreting it differently, mine was "do you prefer contested mobs or instanced mobs?" -- i prefer contested mobs.

It really is that simple.

I wouldn't mind a longer lockout timer on my work instance...

In EQ1 it most certainly was for a long time. Nowadays though it's not the case.

But yeah, would like to have seen "most, some" options.
