Default Re: Hypothetical Class Consolidation

It's too late to consolidate classes. If anything this discussion should be tailored to a new EQ game because too many people would bitch.

Also updating spells is already extremely easy for them.

Their formula looks like this: (tier_multiplier * base * spell_quality) = new_value

where base and spell_quality are constants and tier_multiplier is obviously dynamic for each tier.

Edit - Added spell quality

Default Re: Hypothetical Class Consolidation

I say basic class styles and give lots of aa spec ability.

Damage based mage (includes pet options)
Hybrid mage (dmg and heals)
Pure healer
Beefy tank
Beefy melee dps
Vulnerable melee dps
Vulnerable ranged dps
Vulnerable support (most bard technique + some beneficial parts of enchanters... dmg mage keeping the control side of ench) both melee and spells involved. Buffs are more actively controlled... less ez mode.

I doubt this ever happening for eq2 tho.

Yeah no shit.

The whole point is that we should have learned by now, that SOE is capable of doing crazy things to this game... things we will protest and hate... and they will do it anyway. I personally see hints of Class Consolidation.. and have seen them for awhile now. I believe that SOE WANTS to do this someday... and that it is simply a matter of time before they simply say "Fuck it, lets do Class Consolidation".

In the event they do that, I'd like to have a generalized concensus of how to do it right and how to do it wrong. Thats why I'm looking for ideas. (Well also I think it's an interesting discussion).

If the masses can agree on a good way to approach this... then when that day finally comes.. maybe it won't mean the end of EQ2. Maybe.

You fags should come play with us (PM me for details!).

On topic, the only problem with separating class defining abilities as endlines is you're going to have a bunch of toons who are the best of both worlds, especially healers.

Like all Clerics would take Sanc. Shamen would take Oberon over Pandemonium. Spiritual Circle over Lunar Attendant. Spirit Dance over Cannibalize...

All bards would take JC over Gravitas, Percussion over Requiem, Blades and PotM would be split, but well that's one of the only few I can really think of. I guess maybe it could work but it'd take forever to plan out to make sure people who went like JC couldn't get Percussion because it was really deep into the tree or something forcing you to get Aria's, Dove Song, etc; but then you'd basically be a Troubador right now so it wouldn't really accomplish anything.

Which was itself clearly stolen from the savage healing type procs EQ2 has had for a while.

EQ2 would never use an idea that another game has used.

And kall I see what you are saying... but I think it would be a good time to re-evaluate many of those lesser desireable spells. Look at Bards. Ok, JC > Gravitas obviously... but maybe this is a good time to boost Gravitas to make it more appealing.

I'd also like to have a points system like our AA trees, that you can make some spells / CA's stronger... and have no limit to how many points you put in it. Example... if I'm upgrading my CA's, I can put ALL of my points into one single attack... and maybe that attack would go from hitting for 4K, to hitting for 20K... but then I'd be gimped out in other places. Just an example.

Off-topic but crabb's last post made me think of it...

I've been wanting for some time now for bosses to drop spells/cas that you can only get from killing that boss.

Not just fu-fu stuff... but instead of just killing this mob gives you awesome piece of loot x you can also get the new huge wizard blast, or a large ward for shaman etc... you get the concept
