I was thinking and since alot of us are raiders and alot of people love having a effect on the world, why not combine the 2? I propose this idea that Contested Raid mobs in future expansions or even current ones should directly effect the area around them. What I mean by this is, when a contested spawns, like Matron, all the heroic content around the area gets affected too.

For example Matron already has "defiled" and "corrupted" stuff around its spawn point but what about having the heroic content changing when it spawns and changing the difficulty of the mobs in the area making it so that players need to kill it so others can get past it or something. Perhaps have a contested spawn between the arches leading to a new zone and you can't get access to it without killing the Contested guardian the entrance. Forcing guilds and servers to come together to kill them so that everyone can get through.

I think world interaction on this level will give a more fleshed out feel to the game. I mean if I wanted to go to this Dragon Graveyard or something in Kunark, why shouldn't I have to kill some Guardian leading to those lands, and it would need to be a strong enough guardian and the rewards beyond worthwhile enough to want to kill it first. It could lead to a high level heroic dungeon and the guardian only spawn like 1 time every RL day so that multiple guilds can kill it and not have just one guild locked it down but also make it so that whoever does kill it gets a sort of "appreciation" from others so that they can do the zone as well.

I think this idea is really cool.

I like the idea of when a contested is up having some mobs around it change or become fairly harder, almost like they are minions of the contested, protecting it from people who shouldn't be able to come face to face with it.

Granted doing this to some contested could be really annoying if trying to get to a contested and say you wiped once would mean you would have to fight mob respawns over again, but in general if implemented correctly the idea would be pretty cool.

Having access quests to high end zones would be cool as well, kind of along the lines of having to kill a guardian before entering a raid dungeon. Or complete other tasks a few times before you got in. Access quests in general would also create a sense of progression if implemented correctly. For example if you had to clear the end boss of a raid zone before being able to enter another. This would be a decent idea.

But getting more back to your idea, say you have a beautiful grassy plain that is normal but when a contested spawns the grass around it wilts and you see a giant undead treant (yes I know stolen from DoF, bare with me) that slowly wilts the land around it. When you kill the contested the area would go back to normal. I think this is kind of what you had in mind.
