Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
I'm new to the test server (new-ish here too, hello). I was on last night reading the test channel with interest. You made some valid points about the plat spammers Mheryl. Plat spammers are the bane of our ingame lives, and I too wish they're was some way to stop them mailing us all. When I get a mail I expect it to be from someone who actually wants something ingame, not some crappy link to a platsite. Banning ingame mail from players who haven't levelled beyond level 20 seems to be the best idea. At least then they wouldn't keep recreating new toons and simply moving them off the islands to get around the current blocks.
I wish SOE would do something about it. The EULA is being ignored everytime these people sell ingame plat. It's about time SOE took this seriously, as it damages the ingame money balance every day. The vast majority of people who are buying this plat are only doing it to enable them to monopolise the broker, buying up anything that's highly sought after, then selling it on for a profit. This furthers the platsellers as more and more players have to resort to buying plat just to afford the items they want to enjoy the game. It's a catch 22 situation.
As for your comments about the test server. Well, I've only been there a few days, but already I've realised that no one on that server is fully testing the entire game. Raid zones must be the only part of that server that doesn't lag!
True, it's not a proper representation of a real server. And I to get the impression that anyone who tries to change things on there will get shunned big time.
But the more live players who take the time to play there, the better. There should be more people testing the higher content. Not just coming on to see the latest GU's.
I'll certainly be doing my bit to change things.

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
I actually just started leveling a character there myself. I mean, with double XP and all, its much fater than making one on live :p More proper raiders really should start leveling a toon there, cuz i guarantee you that if we take some time to test stuff out before it goes live, alot less of our raid content will be broken.

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
I have a mid 30s Illusionist there that I played a bit, it kind of sucks doing solo questlines, but it isn't horrible with the 50% bonus xp.
Well, I've thought about leveling all the way to 70, but I just am too lazy with non-main characters :\

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
As someone with 4 non-copied 70's on Test - yep, the culture blows. The squatters won't have anyone to blame but themselves if SOE lights Test on fire. (They will blame everyone but themselves, of course)
The only reason I stuck it out to this point is that I found a guild that was the anti-elitist group - but it's been crushed by RL and the new games hard. By definition, there weren't many people to begin with.
Even then, if the regulars were magic-wand erased, it's not like my group was/is capable of proper raid-testing. I've been in the type of guild that's needed, and we wouldn't be close to the time investment necessary - without even touching the skill question.
I've kept a level of detachment, so if/when the Test overhaul comes - I can continue or unsub without drama. I played a Test server - I know what can happen.
I've *prayed* for a "real" raiding guild to start or move to Test - just to read the lamentations of the regulars. However, I don't think it'll ever happen, and Coyote finally gave me the way to express why - a guild that dominated the Test Server is the equivalent of dominating the Special Olympics in the eyes of the other guilds, and everyone knows it. While Ishbu may be correct that individual reputation isn't so important - guild reputation is EVERYTHING. You'd have to find 24+ raiders that are willing to put in the time investment on a Test Server AND not worry about guild reputation AND not destroy themselves with Guild Drama in an environment that makes people irreplaceable. Good luck.
Are all the mean Type A bullies going to flame me off the board now?
