Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
I'll be on test all night (we don't even have any contested windows open /cry) probably on the character Ebilness. I have a second account that I can log a toon on to help create a guild, and I would be happy to group up with people to level whenever I'm not raiding. Feel free to send me a tell, Blackburrow.Perito, Blackburrow.Thristin, Test.Ebilness (28 Warlock), Test.Hanging (32 Brigand). Those are the characters I'm most likely to be on.
I, much like Pinski, hate doing the solo quest lines so I really don't level much on my own.

Might be interesting to log in over there and play. Granted the community sounds horse shit. But if theres a group of people guilded together without an attitude problem a lot could get done/fixed/polished IMO.

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
I got a lot of flack from test server tonight while i was trying to raid, we had a bunch of contested pop, plus inner sanctum and cheldrak so I couldn't reply til now.
There are a LOT of good people and good players on test. I didn't mean to make the OP sound like they ALL were like that, what I meant was to get rid of the ones who are elitist, who make it hard for the live players to play there.
But test people, here's the issue-- you do not play on Live, because (I've heard it over and over) you don't like the live server environment, you like the test environment. That's all well and good, I enjoy playing there too, but you're testing a LIVE game.. you play on the TEST server for LIVE content and yet you don't play like we do on live.
You don't use the broker. You have Meet and Greets to give new players gear. That's awesome and kind, and very nice for a new to test player. It doesn't test the broker tho. I had to tell a QA and do a bug report recently about recipes showing up as scribed already on the broker when they hadn't been scribed. If you used the broker, that wouldn't have gone live at all.
You don't raid at the same pace. Most live servers are raiding EOF content, possibly already beaten it altogether and farming it for gear. Your raiders can barely do KoS zones, and not even close to all of those yet. Yes, there may be a guild that gets copied over to test when things need testing, but no matter what they test, there's always going to be more that they didn't. Changes happen to gear, aa's, classes, mobs-- and I know those guilds aren't testing every bit of that new, changed content. Who is this guild anyway? Not to sound dubious but the only time I've ever heard of it is from a test player, and none of them have named names except to say "I think it's Fires of Heaven".
You have no economy to speak of.
The lack of raiding also makes you unable to test high level crafting recipes. I had to bug the Platinum Repository, and talk directly with a QA on test, before it got fixed, and I wasn't high enough to make one til well into the second month that EOF was out. It was giving back more xegonite than you had to use to make the thing. With all the crafters on test, how did that happen? As I said, you didn't have access to the recipe.
One last example. When I made a newbie there a few months back, I mentioned that the rocks on the newbie island in qeynos were giving the wrong harvests. The ore was giving jeweler stones, the stones were giving ore. I was told by probably ten different players that 'Devs have known about this for a long time, they just don't have time to fix it, don't bother bugging it, we bug it all the time" or various combinations of that statement. I bugged it. It was fixed within two days, with a comment that read almost exactly like my bug report did. (new players may be confused by this when it's time for t2 harvesting)
None of us are perfect. We all do what we can. You guys bug things, they dont' get fixed. We bug things, they don't get fixed. It happens. No one blames you guys for the stuff that gets through, because you are playing the game the way YOU want to play it. But we want to play the game too. We want our new content to be bug free on release, or as close to it as possible. We want to help make that happen. When we go play on test, we don't want to hear about how bad we are for pricing things semi-high on the broker, or how we've ruined your fun server, or how horrid it is to hear the arguments that go on between live players. We just want to level, to play like we do on live, and to test the content as a live player would play. That's it.
I'm sorry for making the testers feel bad, because that was NOT my intention, only to call attention to the FEW who make live players lives miserable when we're over there. And before someone says it, I'm not putting down your style of game play in any way.. it's just not how the other servers are doing it.

Well said. There are many very kind people on that server.
I tried test server once, doing beta for Fallen Dynasty. I actually had start having conversations in the test channel. Alot of them were very rude to me. Soon after them being rude I met someone on test. She said something to the effect of "Don't let them get to you, they try to be so PC its overbearing". I said "Whats PC?"..."Politically correct"....
I have a tainted view of the test server community; Although, I really wouldn't mind leveling up a toon on Test to raid with. Just anything but a healer...I've played one so long now on Kithicor that when I tried to play my Trubador that I died because i freaked when i kept looking for the Cure Noxious spell....

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
I have a couple of characters started on test now, since Iam currently on hiatus from raiding I have been meaning to play there more and level up a guy or two for sploring new stuff. I generally ignore the test server regulars. I find even I know more than they do!

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
Hi all,
Test Server player here. Fairly proud of that fact, although we seem to be getting beat up on quite a bit lately. On to matters at hand. I really don't know what to tell you guys. I'm sure there are people on all servers that grate people the wrong way, heck I'm near positive I manage to piss people off although I try not to. But to label us all losers, retards, elitist, and quite a few others, seems a little over the top.
We do what we can with what we have. We are trying to make the game better, but we can only do so much really. I have only been on Test since just before DoF so I can't really speak for the origins of server practices, but I can pass on how I percieve it to be now.
Broker - We try to keep prices down to make it easier for everyone to get what they need in an environment where we have very little.
Server pride - Yeah we like our server, don't you like yours? It's a nice place that I and most others are quite fond of. Small community, most everyone knows each other. I guess I am just not getting the hostile feeling that is being reported here.
Raiding - Once again, we are trying guys. Really. If any would like to help out we would love to have you. We are in DT currently and have some nice recruits coming up. And btw I can't flipping stand that we are not current. I don't like it. I don't like missing out on all the neat encounters and gear live is expierencing. And it peeves me to no end that we aren't able to test it out. So please don't assume we are not trying or have little desire to be current. As to the possibility of raiders from live starting a guild on test, sweet! I really hope you guys succede in it, shoot me a tell ingame if there is anything I can do to help.
Lvl of skill on test - /shrug I think we have some pretty good players here. We have a pool of 60 to 100 people (guessing on numbers) who play here regularly so it kind of stands to reason that live would have a large portion of top tier players compared to test.
Elitism - Honestly, I have seen more blatant elitism in this thread than I have on test in the past 6 months. Yes, by all means we have our players that have a big head, can you guys not say the same? Most everyone likes to think they are good. I think it is kinda natural actually. If you want to be good at something you have to believe you are good.
I like to think I am good enough to get in a raid guild on live, once I caught up in the gear dept of course, but chances are I'll never be able to be sure.
Transfers and copies - Everyone has a differing opinion on this. And we can't really affect what soe decides.
So to recap - I really am sorry if some, or all, of you have had bad expierences on test. I really am. I would like to ask that we are givin another chance to show that we really aren't all bad. Cmon over and roll a toon in your spare time, you may like it. Most of us really are here to have a good time, test stuff out, and build some good characters. All I ask in return is this, Please remember we are players just as you are and we are trying to help where we can.

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
Well, there seems to be enough interest, so me and slippery just created a guild on test, called "Raiders". Basically, we want it to be kind of an alt raiding guild. Like, when we aren't raiding on our mains, we come to the test server and raid instead of doing jack shit in QH. This way our toons are ready to at least test the stuff that comes out on live, cuz I do believe that we will be able to get rid of at least SOME of the bugs we get. If we get enough people to join, wed probably be able to have a raid force even if some people are still raiding on their mains.
So heres the deal. Those who are interested, please join the channel 'Test.raiders'. Pretty much anyone with raiding experience is welocome, we just ask one thing - that you really do want to do this, and aren't just gonna make an alt and leave it untouched at lvl 10 and not log back in for 2 months. They do got a nice constant XP bonus over the live servers, so its pretty quick to level here.
Anyway, if you do got any questions, feel free to send me a tel on Blackburrow.Manyak or Test.Manyak, or you can send Slippery a tell on Blackburrow.Perito / Test.Ebilness. Or just /join test.raiders. Hopefully we'll be able to raid within a month or 2 tops.

Re: Why "proddies" don't play on the test server
Excellent. Some friends and I on Blackburrow, of Bane, have discussed doing this. I will join the channel and aggressively run a character up. With the XP Bonus it shouldnt be too difficult, and I like the Quests so I tend to level pretty fast on those
