5g for a lvl 20 who's never touched an mmo before eq2 and plays it like someone learning the game is a lot of cash.

Instead, make the cost progressive, like is done with achievments. Mail cost per send increases for each mail within a time limit. WITH NO CAP

If you want to send 50 mails an hour, you can pay 5s for the first one, 50s for the second 5g for the third...

Ragnarok online has a system where when you level up you slowly get ability's like send private messages, grouping, ect. which would solve some problems but Snarks idea of limiting tells per min is probably the best idea in this thread, and yet its still not the answer.

The nubs should run to the TS docks and trade stuff there just like I did when I was a nub. It would take them a whole extra two minutes. Woowoo.

Blocking based on lvl is not the way.

raising the price wont stop them, they are plat sellers/farmers(they have the money)

need to setup a system that is based off abuse of account
limit tells and mail to 100 a min
when you go over that the account looses both for 5 mins

they send 1000's a min

It should be something that the players are able to control, in my opinion. I'd rather take it upon myself to block out whom I want, even the low level tells that I get begging for a plat, then have SoE implement something that might cobble the game for new user experience.

Spam is going to happen regardless of where you're at, in game, at home, watching tv, checking your mail. Its not going to go away, ever. If 'regulations' are put forth to prevent spam, then you run a large risk of preventing 'non-spam'.

Having a meter for spam control also isn't a well thought out solution because then everyone gets a meter, and thats more data to be pushing up and downstream.

I like the idea.. with a twist.. the amount of mails you can send is linked to your character level.

So a level 70 crafter level 70 adventurer can send X amount.. lets say 1/4 of your combined adventuring/trade skill... 140/4 = 35 an hour an hour before it gets costly. (10 gp a mail) Shit you can put ANY formula you want in there... it will seriously cut it down...

level 1 level 1 can send 2 before the higher prices kick in.

You level more.. the mail man rewards you...

Also, the tell meter would be nice.. But people who are mutual friends (aka on both friends list) or in your guild should be immune to making your "meter" go up...

I know I can personally send a shit load of tells talking about a specific item with a friend in a VERY short period of time.

Make a dynamic system based on the number of tells per min, have it determined by your adventure or tradeskill level. Like I said Snark's idea is the best but is not the best solution. Having it under the users control doesn't mean I wouldn't use it I just think thats extremely poor implementation and is just a quick fix.

No, its really not the best idea. You're asking for several lines of code and processes to be implemented just for plat sellers, therefore clogging up the game. A simple filter is the best solution, and having that filter controlled by the character themselves is the best way to guage what a character wants to filter and what they don't want to filter.
