The mail needs to be limited. I'm ok with upping the price of mail a little but slapping level restrictions on tells just means Johny N00b won't ever find anyone who can tell him how to play a Templar. It's a public game and we have to deal with people otherwise we're pushing things towards a solo MMO experience.

The tells per minute they could probably get around. It would just slow them down a little.

Exactly and personally having players determine level cap ect should not be necessary there should be another solution.

Edit: As far as the mail goes If anything I don't mind the mail but the tells bug me, as you can tell by my other post I find the mail funny because its always some NEW OFFER RARE CRAFTED FURNITURE! an so on.

Why not just recode the game so that if you get 10 replies saying, "Fuck off asshole!" your account gets insta-banned for week?

:D

I still think the game needs an advanced language filter. SoE can add the name (and all l33t variation spellings) of the name of all plat selling sites to that filter. If a tell contains words on that filter, the tell becomes undeliverable and sends off a yellow flag to a GM.

That would totally ruin my fun sending Snark and Rhaz fake plat messages in the mail

To sum it up:

1. The scheme described by the poll is so efficient and obvious that people blabber or give no real reasons when trying to argue against it. "This is not the answer" doesn't give me a reason, it just tells me fear.
2. No low-level players send me tells asking how to play a wizard. Instead I get T6/T7 referrals from guildies and friends, who ask for my opinion on AA and cast order. T1/T2 players just don't give a shit about dps science and I won't potty train someone who hasn't played the character extensively.
3. People who regularly interact with T1/T2 players might not use this feature, or might set a low threshold like level 5 for instance. That is fine.
4. I have no business with T1 players. If you don't like it, blame the con system. If there's a level 1 item transfer bot, I usually verify the name beforehand with the main player. If you're a level 5 alt of a friend of mine, get that shit to level 15 and show me you're serious about the character before I go out of my way to add you to my friends list.
5. /tell throttling is DOA because /tell macros get used legitimately during raids.
6. Raising the price of postage is moot if/when the feature gets implemented.

As a similar non-MMORPG implementation elsewhere, the Slashdot.org forums have an option where you can hide all posts moderated down below a specified point value.

I have no idea how they'd implement this, or if they would / could, but nonetheless -

Expanding on the /ignore feature. Allow me to filter based on things I input, such as "/ignore < name of plat site > " There's only 3 websites in the gabillion plat tells I've rec'd that have been mentioned. Ugh, I say only like it's not that many, but moving on-

Granted, the spacing of the website name can be tricky, but I'd be willing to add to the list if it could block every Xjsflguio that sent me a tell.

Just brainstorming :D

Then they get reported after sending a volume of /tell's, presumably banned, and suffer nothing until the next advertising run on another account. It's a cyclical process that doesn't end.

The solution that many players have reached consensus on is dreadfully simple and effective. Simply add an option, whether in the Game Options or Persona window, that blocks all tells from any player who (a) isn't at least the level you specify, and (b) isn't on your friends list.

And this has to apply to in-game mail as well. It only costs 10 copper to send a mail and there's nothing as annoying as raiding and then between raids you make the effort to see what mail you got and it turns out to be plat spam.
Whether or not it would completely solve the problem, which somehow I don't think it would completely, I think the option should be given. I know there are a lot of social players out there that will talk to anyone and everyone, and this is super, but there are enough players that limit their interaction, that this should be a plausible option.

My thoughts..I'm not a guild leader, so I'm not needed to speak with for recruitment for those outside the guild.
I generally don't talk with anyone outside my guild and/or friends list.
Those who know me and roll alts know exactly how to get a hold of us through other ways of communication such as chat channels.

I could easily block all incoming tells from all characters under level 40 and never notice a difference.

Regarding a filter. I don't like this option. Mostly because it is a pain in the ass to deal with. I think that e-mail filtering outside of game has taught us that yes, you can try to block it all, but if you do it manually, it will be more of a process and all of the good people at www.buymyplat.com will just use all of the old e-mail spam tricks to get around it. Spacing, alternative characters, temporary urls that redirect, etc. You'll still see just as much spam, only now you'll be wasting time trying to add it all to a filter.

I gave you plenty of reasons why your solution is clumsy and of poor game-design. If you are so offended of multiple opinions, and clearly have no desire in reading them, why do you post stuff in a public forum. Make a blog or something, those are hot these days anyways. Especially video blogs. Yeah, do that. Otherwise go fuck yourself.

The solution should never come after the problem happens. That is what you are proposing. In all probable situations, a player would have to receive a barrage of tells to get "annoyed" before they use this feature. And, for plat buyers, one tell is all it takes. So what exactly are you trying to stop here? Are you trying to stop the plat sellers from recruiting new buyers, or are you trying to stop the plat sellers from annoying you with their 5 tells a day schema.

Either way, your plan sucks.

It's cumbersome, unimmersive, and brings the problem to the player. Many new to the game would ask, "Why would I want to block mail and tells, this makes no sense?".

SOE needs to get creative with solutions that stop the problem before it happens. I know for a fact WoW has implemented solutions to curb these problems, why doesn't SOE?

Your proposal boils down to a lazy fix that really doesn't solve anything. For someone so adamant about stopping plat sellers themselves, and not just the occasional tell or mail, I'm surprised you would opt for the "cover my eyes and ears" technique. Get real.
