But it doesn't stop the problem. People who want to buy plat but don't know how will still get the tells and then buy the plat. This is the problem.
So, we stop plat tells to people who don't want to buy plat, big fucking deal. It doesn't do anything to stop the problem. That's what snark is saying.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
You could actually level block the /who all search engine until a certain level also.
I believe (maybe I'm wrong) but most of there spam programs work off that don't they?
It would also allow people who are forced to go anon / roleplay to come out of the closet.
Just another idea.
anyway if you removed the ability of people to spam /tell and email in game you'd handle 99% of the problem without efecting most of the playerbase.
I don't think even the most rabid plat seller wants to send 1 tell / email at a time. And if they did it would be a very large waste of time.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
This option is incremental in dealing with the problem. You're not wrong in saying that the tells will continue with or without us. But what this option does is spares us the bullshit. The tells will go on, but not to us. The mails will get sent, but not to us.
Look at the Ragnarok Online example given, which is much the same thing except that it's enforced by the early progression of game.
Who knows, maybe the dev vision for the game is for level 70's and level 1's to co-mingle regularly. Yeah on second thought, that does sound pretty stupid.

I receive spam tells and mails just like anyone here. Doesn't matter what my hide status is. Sometimes they send lowbie watchers into higher level zones just to /who for spam targets.

So nothing happens for the problem. It's like cleaning up and shoving all the dirt under the rug. It doesn't do a damn thing but allow the devs to ignore the problem stating, oh there's ways to make it so you don't get the tells!
Thanks, but no thanks. If you want to fix the problem, you fix the problem. This is not a fix, it would be an attempt at moving the problem to be somebody else's problem. Sorry but this does nothing then. The tells will still exist, even if you don't see them. The problem, to me, isn't that I'm getting the tells, it's that the tells exist in the first place. You have to actually get rid of the tells altogether to fix the problem, not just put them under the rug.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
It doesn't move the problem, because right now everyone has the problem. It dramatically chisels away at the people affected by the problem. I don't know what to say against the suggestion that it is a bad idea to do that. We have to be pragmatic here... there are no Minority Report psychics that are getting wired into the /tell system any time soon.
Look at what happened to /target when it was getting abused. Or to lowbie npc aggro status when grouped with a higher level character. Abused systems get tightened up, it's always been this way.

It doesn't stop people from selling plat. People who already play this game and are high enough level to implement this already have received the message and know about the plat tells. You know what this doesn't fix, the new people coming to the game with new characters. What are they supposed to do, they get the tells anyway! It doesn't do jack shit to the problem. If you want to fix a problem, you fix the problem, not just shove it under a rug and ignore the problem.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
OK, I have a question. Why is it that the sites that are continuously advertised in-game not been shut down, has SOE definitively said? I mean, it's 1 thing when people /report a suspected botter or farmer & have to go through their 'investigation', but clearly another when the tells are reported day in & day out. Can they not see that @ 1 time a character named tuwoitslgjgl (who was reported for plat advertising) was on a particular account, or does it all go away if the character is deleted? I'm happy that thus far I haven't had to dig deep into the inner workings of these people, but after the past week it's gotten ridiculous =/

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
This game is merely dragging its feet implementing a feature that has a zillion successful counterparts in other game and non-game software.
The solution is to stop dropping masters off less-than-epic mobs. That is the grand final solution. You want to break the knees of the plat pharmers and restore real progression? You do it that way. Until that happens, this permits us peace of mind.
