It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
People are tired of in-game spam tells, and people are frustrated that the development team isn't giving us the obvious solution(s) to this. Right now, enforcement against this is reactive instead of proactive, and plat sellers can take it to the bank that the money they spend on a basic account will net them quite a few /tell advertisements. Then they get reported after sending a volume of /tell's, presumably banned, and suffer nothing until the next advertising run on another account. It's a cyclical process that doesn't end.
The solution that many players have reached consensus on is dreadfully simple and effective. Simply add an option, whether in the Game Options or Persona window, that blocks all tells from any player who (a) isn't at least the level you specify, and (b) isn't on your friends list.
And this has to apply to in-game mail as well. It only costs 10 copper to send a mail and there's nothing as annoying as raiding and then between raids you make the effort to see what mail you got and it turns out to be plat spam.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
Both should be allowed. I should be able to block tells especially by defining certain parameters - non-guild, below a certain level, excluding tells from anyone in guilds I specify, etc.
I hate to sound elitest and don't mean to do so. But I get at least 50 unwanted tells everytime I log in, probably 10 when I just log in, and up to 50 within the next hour or so. That amount of tells is disabling. I don't want to be rude or uncool to anyone, however, just because they send me a tell. But I just can't handle that amount of communication and play EQ2. Ignoring the tells and not responding really isn't a solution. Then people get angry and think you are being elitest, or continue sending you tells over and over, making it worse.
I think this topic is far broader than just involving farmers and plat sellers, it is a general EQ2 topic. I'll move it to the general section, let me know if you want it moved back to the farmer section.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
Also, I think the cost to mail a letter should be increased to 5 gold, except between guild members.
This would make things slightly harder for crafters, but would quickly eliminate spam mail from gold sellers.

If you feel it's a broader topic, feel free to move it.

Great idea. Let us hope they add this simple and effective option to the game.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
Up for grabs is a mod to the restriction:
- If the sender isn't in your guild OR your friends list.

I highly disagree. I mail stuff between my own characters all the time. Raising the cost to send things because of plat sellers isn't going to fix anything, but will likely piss off a lot of people. You don't screw the playerbase to stop plat mail.

Re: It is time to level-block mails and /tell's
The fix proposed in the poll will mostly remove the need of increasing letter prices.
