Denial of Service attacks resume

This site is again under siege by intermittent denial of service attacks.

The 3 to 6 minute page load times you've been experiencing on and off for the past week + are not the fault of this site. We are paying for first class, premium service, yet are being slammed by a person who is hammering the CPU on this site with 20,000 + instructions per minute. This has not yet brought down the site, but has made using this site miserable while the attacks are underway.

As far as I can tell, the attacks are coming at least 50% of the time, and are being launched from places that change frequently. The nature of the attacks is that we can't reject them, since every incoming instruction is being spoofed from different, fake IP numbers.

Basically, we are fucked for as long as this person decides to continue doing this. There isn't anything we can do to stop this.

I have no clue who is doing this, or what their motivation is. There are basically 3 or 4 people banned from this site, and none of them are believed to have the technical ability to do this.

To whoever is doing this, please send an email to elleffgee@comcast.net, or a PM on this site, and tell me what the fuck you want. Is there anything I can do that will cause you to stop doing this.

I highly doubt someone with the intelligence to do whats being done will actually send you an email.

Sad to see it happen but sooner or later it will get boring.

You're making that very clear =p. All I'm saying is, I doubt there is anything they "want" that wouldn't be totally inconveneint for you to provide, thus I question what you actually hoped to accomplish by asking.

I dunno. Someone is taking a lot of effort to do what they are doing. They aren't setting up a bot, leaving it on auto-spam, and walking away for 8 hours. They are changing the gateway they are using frequently and spamming on and off for short periods. This is taking up someone's time. I think it's pretty reasonable to ask, why do they want to put in that amount of time to fuck with this site.

So I made this post for two reasons:

1. To inform our users that there is no need to send me complaints about poor performance on this site, I'm aware of it, and it is being caused by a denial of service spoofing attack.

2. To ask the person doing this, why are you doing this? Because I really have no clue. Surely someone doesn't have so much free time they are just fucking with me and this site for pure sport. I see absolutely nothing unusual with me asking this question.

I guess I question why you are asking me this question.

Even I think thats childish. You would think someone with the ability to do that would be busy making money or something more important than spamming an EQ2 fan site.

No shit, that's why this is a huge mystery to me. I'm not preventing anyone from using this site except for plat sellers.
