Make the most of the time you spend playing the game. If you sit in Freeport or Qeynos all day logged in doing absolutely nothing then you are wasting time. If a person has the will to do well in a game that energy could easily be applied to other things. Try to multitask RL with games and you won't be pessimistc. Always be on the rise trying to make yourself better.

Take a breather for a few days. Maybe you are just burned out in general and need some good rl time off the computer.

I see the points you're all making. I'm not a pro musician, never will be, and never seen "This is Spinal Tap" but I know what it is.

Also it is true about that newspaper thing, but that has like, job ads and stuff like that inside. My Mom only yells at me doing "unproductive" things ONLY when I play EQ2 - I've failed to mention that in the first post. I could be drawing stuff on the walls with crayons and she wouldn't notice. But when playing EQ2... "Hey you know you could be applying for this and that instead of playing that game, etc."

Probably - sucks though when most of my RL friends live across the state (some live 2 hours away!) or work all the time, though. Of course, there's many things to do in the real world.

Well, you could always give yourself a chance to be 'productive' as your mother says. Take a few days off and see how much more you accomplish, and if you feel better about it. If you do, then you might want to quit, because maybe the game is keeping you behind. If you don't, then keep ignoring your mother and have fun :P Either way, you have to remember the game gets in a stale state, and everyone gets frustrated with it. Just depends on how much time and effort you want to put into something you feel is entertaining.

RL is for the people who can't handle EQ2.
I just don't log in if I feel burned out. Then, a few days later, I log in and play a little bit.

I look at it this way, the amount of money most of us spend on EQ2 per month, roughly equals the amount of money we would spend going to the movies or buying a new book. I get more entertainment for my money with the EQ2 subscription.

It's a mother's job to worry about her children of course and none of us should shirk our real life responsibilities. It's easy to get carried away sometimes though. Maybe that's what she's afraid of.

As many have said, maybe you should just take a break from the game to see how you feel.

True, some days I go "Yeah, I don't feel like EQ today" and I go and groom the dog, etc. Since I won't be playing the game at the end of July and most of August (I won't be home, I'll be in Guatemala!) that could help, also.

That's understandable. I do that with other stuff, too.

I guess that's what's she means by - my little brother is the opposite of me and he is outside all the time... getting in trouble. I might take a short break from the game I guess, like I said, I do like EQ2, it's my all-time favorite MMORPG. ;P

You're gonna die, why bother living? And I mean that as a rhetorical question, not an emo battle cry to suicide :P

It's not just MMOs, it's a serious question that's been considered in all different aspects of life. The whole history of humanity is a dust mote on the timeline of the universe. Should we waste any small part of our short time on idle amusement? Then again, are we really wasting anything important in the grand scheme of things? The bottom line is that you gotta be doin something, and there's always gonna be something else out there that might be better. My answer is just to decide what fulfills you in life and go for it. If you're not sure yet, then keep tryin new stuff until ya find it.

The real problem is when it becomes an excuse not to do things in reality that are more fun or fulfilling but also more emotionally risky, removing you from your comfort zone. I've been there, it's a bad place to be, and it's an easy trap. In the end, no harm can come from taking a break. Ya got until Kunark really before a lot of new content comes out. It's a great time to see if your life would be improved sans MMO.
