A Pessimistic Thought by Rhoslyn: Why do I even play EQ2?

This may seem kind of pessimistic and borderline "emo," but here's what I think sometimes when I play EQ2:

Yeah, we're paying a monthly fee. But eventually we're going to quit. Why do I spent so much money and time over something I'll quit sometime?

Now, I do enjoy playing the game, many of you do, many of you already quit. This is just something that randomly popped up recently.

Anyone else feel this way sometimes when they play EQ2? Or even WoW or something?

Maybe I'm just being too pessimistic about shit again.

if you are only playing b/c you dont want to lose everyting you have done, you need to quit now b/c you have a problem...this is a game and you play it until you get bored then buy another game.

you put lots of time into many aspects of your life that will someday be worth nothing. this is no different.

Yeah, it is a game, and I know this - this has also been brought upon me by my mother who yells "you're going to quit that damn thing anyway!" sometimes. I'm the type that goes "... well, so is x!" and she retorts with "well at least that's productive, etc."

if you pay for a tv subscription or anything like that it's the same thing, you are paying for something to entertain you. why else would we all pay for the internet etc.

i play the game for whatever reason, i still can't exactly put a grasp on it, probally just addicted but w/e. imo, if you are unhappy w/ the game, that's reason enough to quit.

why do people smoke, do drugs, or drink? it's just fun~ or addiction. usually have to pay for these unless you're a hot chick, but yeh, you get my point i hope.

a game is for you enjoyment therefore its productive, no mather how few or many hours you put into it, its something that you need, we do not function whit out some Fun aspects in life, sure one day you move on to another game or another hobby, but for the time being this is a hobby you do for relaxing and having Fun.. just like any other hobby

as far for the money cost, artlist where I live $15 is cheap for a monthly cost for a hobby most will cost you more and even give you less freedom when and how much you do it

Yeah, I'm happy with the game - the thing my mother brought up in an earlier post, though, is what made me think "well, damn." I know she hates MMORPGs in general with a seething passion but... yeah.

Back when I was playing in bands my mentor once said something like:

"There's only three reasons to do any thing. Fun, learning, or money. If you get all three, KEEP IT. If you get two of three, you're doing real good. If you're getting just one, it's still worth doing. But if you aren't having fun, learning something, or making money, maybe you shouldn't be doing it."

It's okay to move on. Whether it's your job, a relationship, school, or a game, if it's not working for you and you gave it you very best try, move on.

I guess that makes sense, Calthine. And I obviously haven't learned any life skills from EQ2, Illuminator, after all, I am Rhoslyn!

Like I mentioned before, I tent to look into things TOO much, and this is no expection. I do enjoy EQ2, once again. ;P

tbh, i have learned life skills from eq2, my fiance and i met in this game and probally the biggest reason why i am still playing today. in the passed i have made good money from the game, i still have fun, and i guess i learn things =) it's a decent game, it's better if you surround yourself with good people. granted i dont like most people i run into but theres 2 or 3 that i really enjoy playing with.
