Hard, I can deal with. I enjoy a mob that's difficult to beat. What I don't enjoy is wasting 2-4 hours of my life with NOTHING to show for it. That's not hard, that's mindnumbingly painful.

Re: Hey, I thought we were done with camping?
Camping mighta traditionally been part of EQ2, but not really anymore. It's dead easy to pop everything now except at the level cap. They know camping isn't fun, they just need something to waste your time while you're waiting for the next expansion.
And for the record I was part of a team that was getting discoveries (server I think) on the claymore on AB and we were pumped about that, but couldn't work up the energy to care halfway through camping SoS hehe.

SoS camping was far worse when the zone was packed. Nothing better than getting a group together to advance Claymore and find out there are 2 or 3 other groups in there competing for spawns with you.

Re: Hey, I thought we were done with camping?
That was the problem last night. There was a group behind us waiting for us to leave the room after we got the spawn. So there was a backlog.
This shouldn't be anymore. The new expansion (EoF) has been out for a while, so there's no need to wait. Most of everyone does this quest to simply gear up their toons for KoS raids anyway or they wait to get EoF and to instance runs to get gear that's better.
The quest is outdated. There's no reason why the mobs have to be camped now.
One of the reasons why I left EQ1 was due to the painful camps.

Camping is bad design. One of the early appeals of Vanguard before it released was the concept of quest mobs being available when you were ready for them.

Re: Hey, I thought we were done with camping?
Camping is a timesink. The more timesinks in a quest means the longer it'll take to finish, which means as it gets longer less people will be able to finish it. Therefore it means that the reward can be better.
Not only that, timesinks are a need in MMOs just to keep you playing longer. Just like random loot drops are a timesink, so is camping. Deal with it, or go play a different type of game. Without timesinks you'd be done playing the game within months and there'd be no reason to keep you playing the game, which means you'd cancel your subscription and wouldn't resub until new content comes out, therefore making them lose a subscription.

I allways thought SBD was the best designed hq in the game... most to the fact that all mobs needed was triggered/auto-spawns.

Re: Hey, I thought we were done with camping?
If I wanted a timesink, I'd level up my provisioner. I understand that they needed the camps to keep people busy before the next expansion release.
But hey, EoF is already here. It's time to take a look at the older quests and make some adjustments.
I have no problems with tough mobs. I enjoy the challenge of actually *GASP* thinking about how to kill something.
Sitting on my ass for four hours? That's bullshit. Come up with a better plan.
Exactly.

Re: Hey, I thought we were done with camping?
heh, did you expect anything else? MMOs have to have time sinks or else customers would go in get out and get bored.
How many high end raiders are bored right now cause they have already finished everything? honestly.
People get bored and they quit, may come back may not. if their is still something to do the chance they quit from boredom lowers.
My point being EQ2 is an extremely small world compared to other MMOs with instant teleports all over the place. so traveling and exploration is hardly a timesink. which really only leaves room for the other time sink Leveling and questing. Specifically, Quests with the 'Uber' rewards that most everyone wants to do.
So which do you guys like better? small worlds or quests you dont have to camp hours for? Cause I heard plenty of people bitching about how big Butcherblock was and they preferred the smaller zones, and you cant have both without completely destroying any fun the game has left. It needs timesinks, a MMO cant do without them.
