High Elf males do look bad in SOGA, but their defaults look ten times worse. Elves aren't supposed to look retarded or homosexual. They're supposed to be willowlike and graceful.

The default woodelf women are fat and chubby. The high elf women look flushed and bug eyed. High elf men look like boys. Human defaults (both men and women) look like they have downs.

At least, with the fae, they got it right. They're supposed to look like kids.

All they need to do to solve the problem with humans is put in the original character models they used in their beta promos.

Now that I think about it, I preferred all the original character models. I'd love for them to rework those so that they're more functional and so they can implement them into the game.

I use SOGA on my human male and dark elf male. Everything else is default. So overall I would say default looks better.
