See, and I let myself get tied into propaganda from my desk neighbor... but now that I've been contradicted, I'm sure you're right. Strider and Company are gone, Arwen falls ill, ("loses her grace"), elrond and assorted cronies wright spells while smithing a repaired sword. Will crack the trilogy (actually 6 books) again this week as my penance... (after i finish the other 3 books i'm in the middle of, "The Source" - Brian Lumley, "Foundation and Empire" - Isaac Asimov, and "Song of Susannah" -Stephen King.... I'm close on all 3)

The Sword of Elendil was forged anew by Elvish smiths, and on its blade was traced a device of seven stars set between the crescent Moon and the rayed Sun, and about them was written many runes; for Aragorn son of Arathorn was going to war upon the marches of Mordor. Very bright was that sword when it was made whole again; the light of the sun shone redly in it, and the light of the moon shone cold, and its edge was hard and keen. And Aragorn gave it a new name and called it Andúril, Flame of the West.

I'm in the middle of re-reading the Harry Potter books, the last one being released in a few days, and it being several years since last I gave them a read through. I'm fairly sure I got some Stephen King in my to-read pile though, which alas is far too high for my liking at the moment ;)

Re: LOTRO devs > EQ2 devs
I'm going primarily off of the title here. If it's facetious, then color me 'special'.
Dude... honestly, I think the dev team for EQ2 is one of THE most impressive MMORPG dev teams I've ever seen in the industry. And I've played mmorpg's since the days of TSN/INN Shadows of Yserbius, Meridian, and so on and so forth... Honestly, I've never seen a team that listens as much as the EQ2 team listens. Sure, they're not going to make everybody happy but who can make every single player happy? It would be unrealistic to expect that...
That said, LOTRO and EQ2 are so drastically different I wouldn't even bother comparing the games much less the dev teams. Besides, look at what they have to work with:
LOTRO: A very thoroughly established fantasy world with very little room for movement without stepping on the very world itself. Sure, they've plenty of room to expand upon it.... but, they're reallllllly going to have to watch their lore.
EQ2: A deviation from a timeline from an original world that is still growing along the original timeline... The world is flexible, full of opportunities, etc... without necessarily having to worry about stepping on the world itself.
I don't want to argue, I mean... I'll agree to disagree... but please, the EQ2 devs are incredible. Seriously, spend a few years in other mmorpgs and see just how much you are listened to.

Re: LOTRO devs > EQ2 devs
I played the beta of LotR and thought it was ok. Wasn't great, wasn't ground breaking, it was just a nice diversion. I dug the fact that it had cut scenes that drew you into a story that runs paralell to the main story so you felt like you were actually involved in a world that was being affected by the main course of events. In the end however, you know how the story's going to end up, where things are, and you have no chance of actually affecting or altering the course of events. This was my main bitch with SWG. Didn't matter what you played or how you played it, the continum was set in stone. All in all, it still wasn't a bad game though.
The whole chicken thing sounds kinda stupid, but it does break up the ho-hum routine of logging in, killing stuff, running all over the place for those damn lazy hobbits, leveling, wash rinse repeat. I like that the dev team has added in something like that.
Besides, how funny would it be to kick the unholy shit outa someone in a duel as a chicken?

Oh no, I'm heartbroken! That's why I wrote something called a 'preface'. :o I swear, I really must take note of things that are beyond you as to not confuse you there, Sparky.

Not to totally derail this thread, but isn't Lumley awesome? If you haven't read his Necroscope series, IMO you're missing out.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming...
