Thats the way I would want it. If I were starting a new game and wanted information about the class I have chosen to play, I dont want to have to weed through 500 pages of people aregueing shit when there is clearly someone out there who has been to the top of the mountain and knows it all.
Its better to have the good info for people to get at instead of having a bunch of uninformed people sharing their opinion. I remember that one retard who raided with a tank pet and swore it was the best way to do dps. He is a terrible player and should never ever open his mouth again. Thats the kind of crap new players dont need to see on class specific forums.
Leave the debate for debateable topics. If something is worthy of branding a less experienced player an idiot for, they probably shouldnt have said it.

Not exactly a fan of public pillory but I largely agree here. Even as an experienced player, digging through false information and just plain silly info is time consuming and rather annoying. Those were the the primary reasons I all but stopped reading the official forums once Necro's were fixed in LU13. Yes, as I'm reading the info I can tell a person is an idiot but it wastes my time to read it and just sets a new player up for failure if they can't find better info soon/easy enough.

I really agree with this regarding the class forums.
The class forums are intended to be informational, and to provide on-topic, useful and thought provoking information players can use to play their class better.
Almost every other section of this site can be used for silliness, raging insult wars, etc.

Re: Are these my forums?
damn, sumone come make trouble in the nquis forum jesus, i think ive edited one guys post, and deleted a single double post
within the class forums there should be a lil order, tha ability to keep shit out that isnt helpfull and only have good discussion. if you want to talk shit theres lots of other boards to do so (not saying u did ash). end of the day even an open flame board needs sum limits sum where. its like how we cant threaten each other with physical violence and clal each other the "n" or "j" word. should we start arguing about these thigns too?
so yeah keep the class boards moderated, keep them usefull and on point. and if your main aint that specific class, then u have to be prepared for ppl to take ur point of view less seriously.
but seriously sumone kick off in the inquis forums, works slow today :p

Yeah it was probably not the best thing to do but being involved in the thread I got a little pissed off at him tolling around. And I hate trolls more then anything else...want to post something constructive or post a point about the converstation, or rebuttle a point made by someone else fine go ahead post all you want....troll the thread and I get pissed.
Was it abusive, no the comment had no bearing at all to any message in the thread other then to stir more shit up, if there was a point to his post it wouldnt of been touched. Was it a bad choice..yeah it was but hey im just a person like everyone here. I volenteered for the mod spot other made me the mod, so I read and post, answer questions and debate.
Its a fourm, I dont get paid, I dont get any benfit from doing it other then spending time giving info on my class to others in the game. My life goes on just fine without ever needing to come here.
As for the poster who I edited yeah im sorry I erased your original post, Im not sorry for calling you a cry baby.
Dont like me fine, find a new mod who wants the extra work I wont lose any sleep, dont care if I stay a mod fine as well, I will continue helping my community just dont troll around.
|
I've been a mod before. Hell, for some of the sites I still paruse, I still am and there are certain protocols you adhere to, which you didn't. If someone is trolling a portion of a forum where it isn't allowed, you warn them. If they don't listen, you take it up to an Admin. It's not your place to edit posts to suit your fancy simply because he pushed the right buttons with you.
No, mods aren't paid and for the most part, it is a thankless job. Abusing your power is a huge no no, though. So if you don't think you can handle the position, where this sometimes will happen (trolls coming in), step down and let someone get in there who can.

I added one word in yellow to what you wrote above, and based on that addition, agree with your statement.
I don't think the class forums would retain the quality and usefulness they've developed in the short time we've had them up if we adopted the same administration system and editing rules in them that we have on the rest of this site.
There are many reasons for my opinion:
1. I do not have the time to admin and read all 24 class forums.
2. Even if I didn't have a job and could devote my full time to admin and read everything posted in the class forums, I don't have the expertise as a player to know what is valid and worthy vs. invalid and unworthy content and information about classes I don't play. I freely admit my limitations include the fact that I only really know things about classes don't I play, which is defiler and SK mostly. I'm not highly knowledgeable about other classes or even about how every class can affect and benefit a combined effort when used together for raids. My knowledge of game mechanics is casual at best, I play my class purely based on instinct, experience and reaction, often without even knowing details of how my spells work - I just know what they do based on using them. My skills involving EQ2, this site, and life in general are entrepreneurial, motivational, and visionary in nature, I'm not an operational person. I always see the forest as a total self-contained ecosystem, while running headlong into trees. I basically suck as a raid leader, a group leader, and even as a player to the extent I am required to coordinate the actions of others to achieve an overall objective in game.
3. So since the Class sections are intended to deliver useful content about each class by and for people who play that class, I would not be competent or qualified to admin most of them even if I had time to do so.
4. This is why we have Class Leaders for each section. The Class Leaders are people who are expected to be among the top 3 players or so gamewide regarding all aspects about their class.
5. The Class Forums would suck if I micromanaged the Class Leaders. They would quickly lose their usefulness, flavor, and individual value. That would destroy the pride and motivation associated with being a Class Leader.
6. The bottom line advice of almost every good management book ever written is this: Only hire people able to think and act for themselves in difficult situations, and who don't need to be micromanaged. Hire the best and most talented of these people possible, and give them the tools they need to succeed. Then sit back, watch, and provide objectives intended to motivate and move this entire combined machine in the same direction toward a common goal. That's all I've attempted to do with our Class Forum system in this case.
Accordingly, I will not intervene in or reverse the individual actions of any Class Leader unless that Class Leader is continually abusing their position on this site. I do not believe that has happened in this case.
The value and purpose of the Class Forums as a component of this site, and of the intended free speech nature of this site as a whole, are individually retained and promoted based on the system we have in place now. If anyone feels as if they are being unfairly shut down by a Class Leader, they are free to start a post about that Class Leader or situation in Rate-a-Retard, the General Gameplay section, or any of the Server Sections, as they see fit. Posts outside of the Class Forums will not be edited or deleted unless they violate the Site Rules.

Well fuck, it's all clear to me now. The Class sections shouldn't be forums, but instead they should be the private repository of the class leaders! Why didn't we realize this before! I mean, Ishybu is the only conjuror out there WORTHY of imparting his clearly superior and flawless knowledge to us! It's clearly impossible for all the other lowly conjurors to know anything worth sharing about their class and they must be lead by the hand by Lord Ishybu.
Viva La Ishybu!
</sarcasm>
You amuse me, Ishy.
Edit: because it's to early for me to get quoting right. >.<
