If that is, indeed, how it works, then they might as well add a deagle and call it Counter-Strike, for how much technical value the game still holds.

Except that guilds who would otherwise wait to finish an instance to go kill a contested can now "save" the zone, go kill the contested, and come back to the unfinished zone to finish it. Won't make MUCH of a difference, but I think its an unnecessary change, and I really hope it isn't retroactive. (NOTE: I have not watched the video yet, I'm at work and can't play something like that here!)

"Save" was a really bad term for him to use. It's not like a save game. It's like a bookmark. They're going to eliminate the "locked in/out" experience of raiding. You can do EH once every 5 days, but you can come and go as you please.
Interestingly enough, in my WoW experience, this does NOTHING to make the raid game more casual-friendly. While, yes, it is difficult for them to play 4 hours straight, it's even more difficult for them to all commit to the same schedule.

Re: E3 Rise of Kunark Video
I'll bet its retroactive, and if you think its a bad idea, think about how much more challenging and 'epic' they can make a zone when they don't have to design it based on being completed in 1 shot.
Plus no more "the zone was lagged and it was late and we didn't have our best people on and then we were locked out" lame ass excuses for not progressing. Makes for better flaming when the WW 1sts start happening!

Re: E3 Rise of Kunark Video
Actually I played from launch and raiding at top end the entire time.
It's a lot like EQ1 if you can save progress. You think we went to NToV/VP/Vex Thal once a week and then called it a day before it was on farm status?
Any more comments that don't make sense?

Re: E3 Rise of Kunark Video
You mean 2-3 days of marathon raiding.

Re: E3 Rise of Kunark Video
The only thing that makes me uneasy about this is that it gives designers the license to use a LOT of trash. They figure "well, we might as well demonstrate our new technology!" and we're going to end up clearing way, way more trash than before.
I still shudder when I think about pre-nerf SSC and TK (from WoW).

Re: E3 Rise of Kunark Video
I guess I'm just failing to see your point. How does saving state make it less challenging. I will predict now that this expansion will separate the REAL top end from the 'pretenders' that rule weak servers and think they are top end. Guilds are going to die, it won't be pretty.
At least if SOE can come through with the Hoshkar/Aaryonar/Uqua/Emp style pain in the ass mob to do it. I await the fallout, don't let me down SOE!

Re: E3 Rise of Kunark Video
It's like MMORPGs are moving away from the basic concepts which define them, and are replacing them with things ripped out of smaller scale games.
"Check out this game where you can play with thousands of people at once! Wait, you can solo! And if you want to group, you can do it in your own private zone where you don't have to deal with anyone else! And if you don't have time to do the zone, you can save your progress and come back later! Now, if you actually take the time to venture out into open areas (all 2 of them, after we get done with the game), anything you fight won't affect anyone else!"

I don't really see this. As stated before, EQ1 had this feature before EQ2 even launched. EQ2 is really the late-comer in implementing this.
Also, as stated before, this doesn't make the game any easier. It's just one less cockblock, and I think we can all agree that's good. The mobs don't die any easier, but you can better organize your raid schedule. Unless, of course, your idea of difficulty is how long you can sit at one time.
