This change is really weak. The ONLY way that this change isn't weak is if a raid zone is dynamic and is constantly changing and working around, and so you can save it and come back one the next day, and different types of mobs are up, and you can't just hold the zone open there.

I'm hoping that the beginning raid instance requires that the top guilds WW take 3 days in them a piece, and the top ones (like hopefully VP) the top WW guilds can't even appoach for a few months because of the difficulty.

I don't raid that often cause I don't have the time for it..but this is the common trend amongst MMORPGs now. All those people out there who picked up WoW to play a schweet new PC game that their friends told them about, will be open to other MMOs now, but none of them know what it is to be a old school MMO gamer.
They want a PC game with save spots, predictable progression, quick ride, and definite "win", that just happens to involve other people (a game with a CHAT ROOM! F-ing cool!).

I think that what we are seeing is the new gen of MMORPGs and now that gaming companies have had a taste of that amazing success (cha-ching!), they shall never turn back.

Excepting gear progression on a near extreme scale, it's impossible to slow down the best guilds legitimately. Even thinking back to EQ1 raids the only things that really slowed them down were time sinks, bugs or the encounter being flat impossible. If you can read a log for AE's and pay attention for events, again barring the need for gear, you just can't be stopped if you can execute.

I've seen too wide a variance in that request to think there is any consensus beyond gear. Gear progression then being a given, just what do people mean when they say hard?

I remember all those posts complaining about how bad there combat music is....... It must be right next to the 10,000 posts about how bad the friggin lag is.

Now that I got that out of the way, constant changing battle music is cool though.

Flames now has 0 support from anyone. No TTH, no Zam (although I'm not sure how much there was), no SOE, no one.

You can slow down the top guilds. Look at the way that DT was done. Even while the top guilds had the contesteds on lock, they still took a while to clear it. Ask a top guild what they wanna see when they hit level 80 in 3 days and they zone into the new zones. They want timesinks. They want to spend hours clearing shit in order for their guild to move forward. Shit like that.

Nice interview! Looks like it was live, rather than derived from press releases too! =p

I snorted water...

Yes we have a team in Santa Monica all week for E3 and SOE was one of their first stops.

And Sav is right...OMG save points are so weak! They do it in WoW and LOTRO both of which are probably a little bigger than EQ2 right now. I think it's a smart move on their part.

It's funny you say that because my experience from the past tells me raiders hated endless trash- true the bulk of my experience is EQ1 but, people bitched endlessly about the Luclin time sinks. They also bitched endlessly about the trash clears in VT. PoP while highly acclaimed by raiders, was also run through at break neck speed because the only time sink it had was flagging. The only reason PoP took as long to clear as it did was because some of the encounters were impossible, zones were broken and launch Fennin Ro had a sense of humor with slow. GoD had the endless trash mobs and people went right back to bitching about uninspired raid design, time sinks, etc.
Ishbu hates trash mobs that have annoying abilities but to me, his statement also hides that while it annoys the hell out of him, it does up the difficulty(post is here ). I can agree with a need for sinks and such being a necessary evil but that's not hard, it's just time consuming. What do you want to actually make raids harder? This doesn't include time sinks but actual innovative scripting etc.- real difficulty. Start a post, maybe the collective ideas will keep you from getting crap design this time. Looking at the vid, I already have the distinct impression your going to be fighting a whole lot more environment effects like lava floors.

I've never been a fan of trash mobs, but I always liked ones with nasty opening attacks and quick respawns. It kept everyone on their toes.

So Morara do you like killing the seedlings and seedling drake in EH or mobs like the one from the throne room, that stun/debuff/dispell the hell out of you that ever time you kill one you have to rebuff to just rinse and repeat?
