Beta testing is like sex

It only matters if you're not getting it.

I haven't been following this post, but what I'm about to say has to do with how SOE picks their beta testers.

Earlier today, my Dad whom quit EQ2 months ago, got an e-mail saying he was accepted into the Echoes of Faydwer expansion. He did not sign up for beta. Whereas I signed up for beta, and have a good reputation, yet I have not been accepted yet.

This shows yet again that they only care about profit, and not beta'ing their game properly as they should. They want to hook people who quit back on EQ2, which is fine, but I just don't like the way they went about doing this.

Is the email address that is attached to your account accidentally showing as your dad's address?

Good question. I just verified right now that my account is indeed attached to my e-mail address. I'm a little upset that they would use beta to try to get people back to playing EQ2 who quit already, instead of focusing their energy on inviting quality players that currently play their game and would love to help them fix any bugs.

I know several people who quit shortly after DoF launched and wound up getting invited to KoS beta without ever signing up. They even offered me their beta keys which I declined.

I seriously intend to log on the Nektulos server tonight and form the new guild "Bitter and Unloved Subscribers." I'll go ahead and make Ixnay the guild leader, because he isn't guilded in the Disso alt guild atm.

The reason for my post was to let Elhron know, as I quoted him, that I'm as bitter about this as he is, and for the same reasons.

If for any reason I can't get that specific guild name tonight, for example if it is blocked, I'll choose an equal or better one instead. :smiley-happy:

Thanks
We're just going to roll as Bitter Subscribers, or BS for short!

Guild purpose: The purpose of BS is to complain about EQ2!
Guild motto: WE KNOW BS!
Membership requirements: Must be able to deal with BS!
Membership rules: Recruiting always open, everyone gets promoted to officer when they join!

Send tell for an invite on Nektulos today!

Wow.

Sounds like they've redefined "beta" to mean "reward and incentive".

They've been doing that for a while, I know a few in EQ1 that were given beta offers on cancelled accounts way back around PoP days. It's all part of my bitterness towards the game industry and their idea of "beta testing".

Default It's all just a hidden blessing :)

You know, it really is a good thing I'm not in beta, because othewise I probably wouldn't have seen SoE's announcement for Vanguard today, and then I wouldn't have remembered to do this:
