Default I love how SOE picks their beta testers.

I have recently found out several people that have gotten beta invites to test the EoF content. Of all the players I know that have it 90% or more only play the game 1-2 hours a day and 3-4 days a week at most. On top of that I know 2 people that cancelled their accounts and still got beta invites. Why cant they pick people that have time and are active players to test content instead of ending up like DoF and KoS.

For the life of me, I don't understand this either. The only conclusion I can draw is that they don't really want the content tested.

There was a whole lot of hoopla on previous betas about SOE picking and choosing beta testers and this hurt peoples feelings. /whine

So now, I think other than some that are hand selected, a lot of it is random.

I do believe a Dev posted there was a seperate beta going on for the combat changes, without access to EoF. Ah, here it is, dated 9/29:

Greetings.

Don't get suckered in by a rumor that isn't true. A rumor regarding uberguilds and exclusive access pops up every beta cycle. I usually reply to just one and leave it at that.

Congratulations for being the one for this expansion!

There is indeed a beta server. There are members of uber and non uber guilds with the ability to access it, as well as some people who aren't in guilds at all.

What is being tested on that server are the combat adjustments posted about yesterday, in existing content.

The group of recent invitees "in uberguilds" does not have access to Echoes of Faydwer content.

We have not suddenly gone insane. We haven't mixed our medications improperly. We haven't hit our head on the concrete and decided to change the way we do betas because we got some bad advice from our horoscopes.

We'll be doing a standard beta for EoF, just like we've done for our other expansions, not "Invite only uberguilds to it."

We now return to your regularly scheduled launch cycle, already in progress,

You also have to remember that there's more than just high-end content in this expansion. There's everything from a starting new player zone to Uber-snifty high-end hardcore raiding content. There's LOTS to test.

I know several people in Beta who are testing darn near around the clock.

They already have all of SD and FoH there.

I bet those people who cancelled are testing thoroughly too....

Seriously, there IS lots to test - but that doesn't include testing how well the expansion holds up to people who only play a few hours a week. It's good that you know people in beta testing around the clock. that's exactly what they should be doing; there's a month til the expansion.

many of those "Uber-snifty high-end hardcore raiding" people would test thoroughly at all levels. They would beta buff toons and go own lowbie areas, and with their enhanced understanding of the way the mechanics work, their testing would be all the more efficient and effective.

I don't know why i expect more from SOE....

Except they're not. They're doing what they do best, testing the tough content that the non-raiders don't. The (ah, I hesitate to use the word casual, but there it is) people with less time to dedicate can test the other stuff, like newb content. Someone has to test the non-hardcore raid stuff, lol. Hardcore dedicated raiders, generally speaking, have one focus - hardcore raiding.

And there's nothing wrong with that as a playstyle

You want to test cars, get professional drivers. You want to test recipes, get professional chefs. You want to test raids, get professional raiders. You want to test solo and group content, get those players.

Sounds to me that some folks here have Beta envy.
