Re: Seeking ideas to make people less upset about the ads
I don't get peoples problems with having ads here, or paying a small fee to remove them. It is afterall supporting a site that offers a lot of entertainment to people when not in game. It certainly owns the official forums for entertainment value.
LFG and the mod team are constantly working to try and improve the site and make it a better experience for the people who come here, and they do it for free. Hell, you all pay $15 dollars a month per account to play eq2 yet some bitch and moan about ads / a one time fee of $10 to support this site and help keep it running. /boggle

These ones seem way better than what we had before, but I am sending my account exec at the ad company an email asking her not to include ones with "sex" in the title. I've seen no nudity so far, nothing even close to those Bullz-Eye ads we had the first day, but I'll see if they can tone down the ones with "sex" in the text a bit.
If anyone who donated wants their ads off and I've missed them, by all means, send me a PM, I'll be happy to turn them off.

Re: Seeking ideas to make people less upset about the ads
The ONLY thing I don't like about the ads is the ones with sound. I can get away with the occasional bikini clad ad at work, but not when the speakers suddenly start blaring "CONGRATU FUCKING LATIONS, WE'RE ABOUT TO LIE TO YOU ABOUT HOW YOU CAN GET A FREE XBOX 360"

Re: Seeking ideas to make people less upset about the ads
Dunno if that works for those adds, but I got this neat little programme FlashMute - Reviews and free downloads at Download.com because of another community site they hade huge flash ads with sound. You can even mute/unmute the whole browser with it.
Edit: I should get my ads switched on again, you have such an interesting conversation about them here, and you can win stuff? *logs out to see the ads*^^.

Vista actually lets you control the volume per-application, which is neat.

Re: Seeking ideas to make people less upset about the ads
The ErrorSafe top page add has me stuck in a loop. When I try to go to the next page, I get a popup telling me that I need to install error safe. Clicking either "NO" or the red X in that popup window warps me to an ErrorSafe download page.
Edit for clarification - clicking "back" reloads the same page with the same add, and closing the eq2flames browser window triggers the same popups as well. (WinXP, IE 6)

Re: Seeking ideas to make people less upset about the ads
I don't mind the ads, but here are some observations...
Within the past 2 minutes of browsing these forums I've had 1 pop-up ad about my PC having errors from errorsafe.com. Had one of the side ads auto play audio that was louder then the internet radio I'm currently listening to and the ads with women in bikini's/underwear are back.
This is all fine if I'm at home, but just taking ten and browsing the forums at work is getting harder to do.

Yeah that loud one about winning an xbox 360 just scared the shit out of me it was way louder than what I was listening to on my headphones.

Re: Seeking ideas to make people less upset about the ads
The errorsafe popup is going to cause me to have to not login or view the site from work. These types of popups are known for ninja installing their software no matter if you click yes, no, or the red X. If I get any BS installed on my production pc here at work, I can count on a pink slip soon.
